80 series keeps brake ing pinons

hi all my good mate has a 80 series he has just but front and rear air locker, 6 inch lift and a free wheel hub kit on it all in one big hit but the problem is now he keeps braking pinion teeth off the rear diff is this std problem with two wheel drive kits on the Toyota's cheers

maybe the lockers werent fitted correctly? just a thought...

i agree with loppy on that one.

pinion teeth are real hard to break...

My oPINION is theres something real wrong....i bet he put new bearings in the pinion when installing the first locker...the shim may have been left out.....ive never heard of an 80 rear pinion breaking teeth

i just spoke to my mate he said when the locker was fitted they but a bearing kit also because it had a lot of bearing movement and the gears were a little worn because of crook bearings sounds like they should of replace the gears when it was a part, i said to him go back and make him replace it on hes back wait and see what happens,

Toyota pinions use a collapsible space. When you install the drive flange tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque only. Most people use a rattle gun or a massive bar and overtighten it causing the spacer to collapse to far.
