Help!!

Dont know how to do a poll, but which lights should i buy.

any other options or opinions welcome. Same kind of price range though.

they will be going a gq with an arb winch bar.

fairly useless for you to make a choice, but two vids of XGT's with HID's in them: (can be done for around $550 to $600 range).

Unfortunately I have yet to own and play with a pair of Hella's. Would love to do proper comparisons between Hella's and the XGT's. Though seeing Turps's modified Hella 4000's a few years ago, they looked pretty dang awesome as he approached us.

If thinking of IPF's, I would recommend steering away from the IPF800's (large rectangle), and going with the IPF 900 (large round) - give out way more light and a much better light pattern, with both halogen and metal halide bulbs.

Haven't done any testing of Roo-Lights yet, so can't comment.

cant afford the hid set up as much as i would love them, so have to stick to the standard style light

i only use hella for there LEDs and wouldn't buy a set of there driving lights. We use cibie or lightforce with rallying and they are great, roo light are spost to be a good option if on a budget. thats just my thoughts.

both are very good lights.. I've had Rally 2000's and they do need strong mounting. Not suer on the 4000s but think they are heavier, so would too

I have Lforce 240's on mine, and really like them. Although thinking about HIDing them with an Ebay kit... but with my unnimble sewn back on fingers, I'd probably fuck them up.

You would be happy with either on your truck, with A GOOD WIRING SETUP... Makes all the difference.

I have hella 4000's they are pretty good especially in the pencil beam, the spread where ok but I also have hella 160s and ipf all on the front and the 4000 pencil beats em all. We do a bit of shooting my mate bought cibie and we lined the 2 cars up , next week they where on ebay.

Wiring is really important dont buy good lights and have crap wiring.
I found this out with my last car , had the wiring re-done and a new alternator and no one ever left their high beams on coming towards me again befoee that the same lights hella's where okay but the wiring improved it 100%

No comparison. Hella 4000's all the way. Lightforces are only good for roo shooting any way.

Haven't seen the Hella but my lightforce XGT were blinding my brother inlaw at about 1km away. I love them
AND yes definately get get a proper wiring loom or make a decent one or you will starve your lights and won't be happy with them.

I run XGT's on my town car, & a combo of lightforce- XGT-140blitz & HID on my comp rig,,havent had a problem of being scared in the dark with both trucks..other things to think of is what they are made of.ie plastic, carbon, steel & glass!!! as this can have an impact on the driving you do as well..
I do know lightforce dont rust! dont get smashedby stones! & hold up to the abuse of the odd roo bouncing off them at speed,in the comp rig the roof lights cop a flogging ie low branches & rollovers, with branches they just get folded back into possition(dont have them too tight) & twice now on rollevers out of 4 roof lights I have only broken 1 light each time, but 2 of the 4 were bent into the shape of an egg,, & still worked!!!!& then later we boiled the jug & tiped hot water over them & they went back round..if you want go to the daihatsu section,check pigletracing pg2 & you will see the FATROZA parked on XGT's at a 4x4show tuff as lights

I have decided that i am going to go with the xgt's. I had the rally 4's on my last 4wd. didnt liked the fact that they wernt water proof. Aside from that they gave me no grief. Lightforce were not around back then.

the xgt's sound like a very good unit.

What about the light output. i heard that is has dark spots in it.

go the spread lens covers, unless you like 2 dots at the end of the HWY

I've always used the ralle 4000's and love them. They have never let any dust or water in them. Never showed signs of rust etc. Very strong mounting system and never have to re-align them, and they don't protrude as much as what I have seen with the Lightforce lights.

Either way they are both good lights though.

Must have been a while back. Blitz 240's came along in the 1996-98 era and XGT's came along in 2000-02 era.

Question on HID's.. Asked on patrol4x4 too...

After reading a few HID threads on here, I'm unsure if they would suit me. Hope they do since this group buy thing is happening.

How do they go being dipped and switched to high beam a lot on the open road? I always use high beam at any opportunity - I like to see whats coming... But sometimes you can only be on high for few seconds before the need to dip them.

I know they take time to 'warm' up each time you flick em on, which maybe a bitch, some say 5-8 seconds?? is that true, or it only takes time to 'warmup' once a day??

The question basically is am I better off sticking with the normal lights or HID'ing them?

Once you have had them on and you di them for a minute or so they should come straight on.

I tend not to use mine around town as they are so bright it will only up set other road users if they cop an eye full.

but I found you really want to check your head light aim. Where you could sneak you standards up a little you cant and dont need to with hid.the light and spread is that good.

yea Im thinkin like headin out towards taralgon etc on the split carriage ways etc.. I always dip when someone is comin the other way.. sometimes you can score well adn nobody is coming.

you should give britaxes x-rays ago there a good light or even the new kc H.I.D made from carbon fibre best looking light ive seen but retail about $950ea the x-rays in 220s are $250ea they also have a L.E.Ds in them that you wire up to your parkers

I have Hella 4000 w/ eBay HID kit.

Used to be spread + pencil - swapped for 2 pencil.

NOT waterproof - altough mine have never got water in them
Pencil beam is too tight (and it's not the HID's)
Spread beam doesn't do much over standard lights.
They are good - but not that good.

I preferred the 4 x Narva Big Bull lights we used to have on the rally car w/ 100w halogens (before eBay HID's existed). The performance was spectacular. The size, err, was an issue.

From what I have seen over time
Bigger is better - just can't get around that
Pencils are better than spread - headlights already spread
Round is MUCh better than rectangular.

I run the thick contact type lens protectors on mine - never had a broken light, and dont' get dirt behind / discolour like plastic clip ons.

I think I know what they are.
Hella sell a 1/2 sphere boring looking black thing on a ball mount with a sealed beam in it. I own a pair itn eh shed somwhere. You will find them in catalogue, not on shelf.
The bulb in is is a GE sealed beam, clear lens, pencil beam. 100W. On the back is printed "Aircraft".
And yeah - I always found them better than equivalent halogen's (no idea how).

The bull lights were far better than those - it's hard to beat 4 x 10" lights, even with HID's.

i can definately varify that 4000's are not waterproof

I've had 4000's for nearly eight years and have never had water get in.
Guess some are luckier than others.

Water has never got in mine either - but the rear is not sealed, water could get in. Lightforce are sealed w/ a breather pipe.
Hella relies on the bubble behind the light staying there. Submerged, it may not.

My 170's came with the breather for free.

wrong again. My 240's didnt come with the breather, that was an 'accessory' you had to buy/fit up.
