racing seats

Post by Rampage »

ok guys so im putting a drivesr racing/sports seat into the patrol 1999 GU and wanting to know how you guys did this! i have a SAAS seat that will fit(miss the pillars and fit between door and tunnel) and what to know what/ how you made your bracketing system!

The GUs have the base and the back of there standard seats seperated and it looks to be a fair bit of modding for it to work well! (might have to get a wrecks seat brackets and cut and shut and test and just swap over once finished)!!
so any help would be good from thoes who have done this or found brackets for any seats?

cheers

I just bought a paratus seat base from ARB. It cost about the same as getting a custom one made and it come with the engineers certificate. I bought the base and the adjuster. Cost about $300. ;)

Ive got a pair of monza seats in my GQ... would the GU mounts be the same???

I modded and strengthening the factory ones so that the base of the mount sits 25mm lower to suit the seat and when i fit the cage will allow me to engineer it too...

But at $300 a side :? it is a great option for those that are not to handy with fab work.

If done properly by getting advice by an engineer im sure there would be no safety issue... In fact if done right is far better as far as strength goes, but that includes upgrading the floor pan which is a weak point too ;) all up cost me about $10 a side... but as stated this is on a GQ, ive got no idea if the GU is the same.

I know the floor pans are different and a GU seat wont fit in a GQ and vise versa. However I don't know exactly how much difference there is.

There is quite a bit of difference between the GU and GQ floor pans. You'd have to modify the whole seat mount. The $300 each side included both the seat base and the adjuster which you can buy seperately for about $150 each. I looked around and unless you can do it yourself. You'll only save about $50 each side. Don't forget that you have to get the engineers certificate, not to mention your consience (spelling) on one of the most important safety points on your vehicle.

I just got a pair of Monza seats this afternoon.
Can't you just adapt the standard mounts etc to the seats?
I havn't looked at my rails yet but I'd of thought you could just bolt them up...

I thought the same thing but there aren't any rails that you can unbolt of the nissan seats. The top half of the rails are part of the folded steel of the seat frame and would need to be cut somehow to remove them. This would wreck the seat and you couldn't sell it to get some extra cash. You would then have to manufacture the cut rails to fit the new seat. It would still need to be engineered as well because it has been modified.

Yes thats what we did. There wasn't a lot of work at all to make them fit.
