Tuning diesel after fitting turbo

Im having issues with my now turboed 3ltr hilux.

I brought a turbo kit, boost gauge and egt gauge and fitted it all up. The paper work that came with the kit said turn the fuel screw on the back of the pump 1/4 of a turn. I did this and could hit 650c just by going up a slight hill, I tryed 1/2 turn just to see what would happen would hit same temp just by putting my foot flat to the floor. Went back to 1/8 and will just hit 650 on a steepish hill.

Proplem is im gettin very little power gain.

Alot of people say when the temps get to high shift down a gear, my problem is that the more i rev it the hotter it gets :? .

I have this fairly steep hill i go up on the way to work. When i was stock i would be doing 60km when i get to the top, after the turbo on a cool morning i can get 80 but in the afternoon i only get between 60 and 70km/h.

It seems to be affected in a big way by a 20c outside temp change, other people i have talked to say the heat dosent really affect them, they are also non intercooled.

The boost gauge reads 9-10psi and the egt is 650c so why dont i have any power?? The inj pump is set right and it has 32-34kg compression (which is like new). Also no matter where i put the fuel screw it dosent blow any smoke :? :?

Any ideas ??

Thanks Shane

did you upgrade you exhaust system when you fitted the turbo system.

I too thought it may of been the exhaust so i removed the rear section of the exhaust, it is now a straight through 2" pipe that finishes just under the cab. Doing this gave me a extra 2psi and the boost gauge needle moves alot quicker.

I am screwing the fuel up (screw it, clockwise) thats why i can get the egt so high very quickly.

before turbo

thats why. itll be like 200 hotter before turbo than after which is what everyone else does. thats why it seems so high because safety is 550 post turbo which is like 750 pre turbo.

The injection timing may be wrong. High EGT's and low power can be retarded timing.
I'd suggest taking to a shop or mechanic that's equipped to check it.

However, you're now 20km/h faster up hills than you were before. That's about right.
If it's noticably slower in the warm then I'd be looking at the air intake, is it restricted and where is it sucking from?

All the posts about egt say 650c is the temp to be, I wish i had installed the egt gauge before i fitted the turbo, then i would have something to aim for.

Its sucking through the stock intake, out of the fender. I took the tube off that goes into the fender but made no difference.

mate from wat ive benn told 2in exhaust is to small my sisters bf has a 3L hulux with turbo glide set up works well 9-10 pound boost no pyro tho and he just fited a 2.5 and says its great so id look at geting a bit bigger exhaust 2.25 or 2.5in then a boost controler that shoud solve your high boost with bigger exhaust and improve your pyro readings

yer i will be fitting a 2.5" system very soon, will be interesting to see how much the egt drops.

This still dosent telll me why i looses so much power on a warm day??

Kiwibacon gave you a good lead on what it could be.
