Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ok so im getting new diff gears to run in my GU wagon 42TDt so i can turn the 37s easier and im looking at 4.6's! does this sound about right- or should i go 4.8's

also i have been told to get genuine as aftermarket ones break to easy and they only make up to 4.6's and thats fine, but are the aftermarket ones really that bad because genuine ones ar around the $2200 and after market are around the $500 for full sets!
the aftermarket ones im looking at are BBM ones (bigballs racing) does anyone have personla experience with these and how much abuse they have had!

im running the 4.88s in mine and havnt had any problems with them.
and i drive hard

try search, been covered plenty in last 12 months. I would recomend genuine 4.625 as I cracked every tooth on my front aftermarket 4.88

Where can you get a full set of aftermarket ones for around $500? Please tell as I would be very interested to get them myself!

saw them on ebay mate, crown and pinnion sets for rear are 250 and same price for fronts!

well im looking at putting in some 4.88's as im running a GQ Rb30 and planning on chucking some 35's under there in the next few weeks. i was told u cant get genuine 4.88's and they make a bit more noise than genuine ones? as long as it aint louder than a muddies hum im happy though.

NASTYTROLL - um what brand where your this is a bit of a concern for me... doesnt sound like too much fun.

4.6 is more suited to 35's. but having said that i run 38's on my 4.6's and it goes fine. if i was daily driving on the 38's i would consider 4.88. but they are trailer tyres and i never do more then about 60 kmh on them.

have heard bad things about aftermarket sets too...and couldnt believe the price of genuine.

my 4.88 gears didnt appear any louder then the 4,11's but I couldnt hear them over the tyres n exhaust.

My ute with 35's n 4.11 drove great on road, with 4.88 n 37 was like 31 n 4.11, 4.88 n 35 was too low n economy suffered bad.

i think 4.6s would be the go!
Factory in the rear. ( all ks are travelled on the rear)
Aftermarket in the front ( only worked when offroading)
i have a TD42T Wagon with a factory turbo upgrade ( 3 inch zorst ,dump pipe ,16 pound boost blah blah blah) and i fitted 4.3 ratios for my 35 inch claws and the gearing is spot on, and i still have heaps of gearing up my sleave, i am glad i didint go 4.6s , it would have been over geared for my truck. with GU 4.2 T being 3.9 ratios standard 4.3 are right for 35s "one ratio up for each inch above standard tyre size.
So 4.6s would be the right size for 37s , and still cruize nicely down the Hwy without screaming its nuts off!!!

I reckon that your spot on, I have 35 with 4.3 and its spot on. I'm glad that I didn't go for the 4.6's .

$250 for a GU rear and $300 for a front. Didn't see anything for a GQ rear though. Does anyone know what sort of quality these "Made In Italy By Antonio Masiero" gears are?

as far as I am aware all nissan aftermarket gears are made there. The gears dont like being given a hard time.

There will be gq available but maybe not listed. gq n gu h233b rears are the same gear set, same as fronts between both models.
