I recently installed a new clutch in my 92 1.3. it seemed to drive ok except the clutch was really close to the floor. I didn't have time to adjust the cable so i just drove for a day with the clutch really close to the floor and really grabby! I noticed today when i was driving that every so often when i would shift i would hear a really loud crunching sound (not the gears) something else (sounds like hitting thin sheet metal with a metal hammer lol) . I also noticed that i was leaking a fair bit of oil from my gear box... Any ideas?

Don't know about the noises but mine engages about 1" off the floor.

Where is the oil coming from??

Adjust the clutch asap, should be an inch or so of cable play at the fork.

i adjusted the cable. But the noise is still there, i asked someone and they said it might be the throw out bearing? but i replaced it less than 10k's ago with the clutch???? The oil seems to be comming from inside the bell housing.???

Who replaced the clutch? Is it gearbox or engine oil? It may pay to pull the box out again and take a look. It may have the wrong throw out bearing. Whatever the problem, the box will have to come out.

i replaced the clutch myself. It's gear box oil not engine oil. I'm really not looking forward to taking the gear box out again, it was so painfull. I bought the clutch kit from super cheap. the first time i bought it it was the completely wrong kit and i was trying to fit it for like 3 hours before i realised that the clutch disc wouldn't even slide over the spline!!! Argh so then i went back to them and got the right one and it fits and everything but now this! I have just read a fair bit on car forums and from what i have read the sound that i'm getting is a dry bearing sound. so i guess i'l have to open it up and have a look?

Should be easier the second time round
Did you check the old kit against the new kit? It may be that the throw out bearing is the wrong size and not contacting the pressure plate correctly. Check the oil level in the gearbox too. Also check the input shaft of the gearbox, check for play and abnormal wear marks. If you can post up some pics it might make it easier to diagnose. When does it make the noise? Is it all the time or only when clutch in/out?
