They are very slow (N/A). Very reliable and will dig in and pull a load all day long.
Fitting a Surf Turbo is a good option, as it makes them bearable (a bit faster) and increases fuel efficiency a bit.

I don't actually know!. I never had a 3L diesel.
I had a 2L turbo that got 10 on the highway conservative driving and it went down to 7 in the city, but it a different capacity and the turbo changes things too.

if you can afford the little bit extra, hold out for the 1KZ-TE powered 3.0TD motor over the 5L Non turbo.
its a much nicer engine- Counter balance shafts, more soundproofing, factory turbo diesel etc etc.

Or you can put a real turbo on and do the job right

Mine initially got 750km out of a 65L tank; got the timimg belt done and it all of a sudden got 450km from the same tank
No one has been able to tell me why (3 different mechanics) and get the economy back.

I get about 450-480kms around town with the aircon. On the highway I get about 550kms per tank.
450kms per tank doesn't sound that unreasonable, especially if you have bigger tyres, bullbar and extra weight on board. I would love to be able to get 750kms per tank though...

sounds not that bad and yeh it does have bull bar winch sidesteps rear bar and a canopy on the back so i would assume it would be getting me around the 450-500 mark would be good
also what size fuel tanks do u guys have?? auto or manual people say manual and auto big difference
cheers nick

I got a manwell. Tank is standard - 65 litres or so. I usually run it down to around 7 litres or so. So if you were game, you'd probably get another 50 kays to the tank if you stretched it, but priming diesels is a pain in the ar$e if you run out.

Slightly different, but:
Dad runs around in a 3.0 (5L) diesel Toyota Dyna truck for work. whether he trashes it, drives like a saint, fully loaded, or empty it gets consistantly 10km/L for fuel economy. I cannot remember if its a turbo one or not, but its definitly the 5L motor (mech injection).
