Removing front propeller shaft.

hello people..hope someone can help me with this...i have a 80 series constant 4wd model and was wondering if i could simply remove front propeller/drive shaft to hopefully improve fuel consumption. has anyone tried this or know if it is possible?

If you did that the car would move at all unless you locked it in hi 4.
There really is not benifit unless you install manual locking hubs to stop the front diff from turning and the transfer would also still be trying to turn the front shaft.
To do the job properly you need the manual locking hubs on the front and a part time kit installed in the transfer, marks adaptors make these.

you can remove the front prop shaft and just engage the centre diff lock button.
It will make no difference to the fuel economy and IMO the 80s drive better in full time 4x4.
