45 series chassis problem

G'day everyone, the rear chassis crossmember (the one that the towbar bolts to) has a big split from someone trying to pull the moon out of orbit I presume. Here's a pic:

So what can I do with this, I've got another 45 series parts machine and I'm pretty sure that the crossmember is ok on that, so would a changeover be the best option? Or getting something better made up? The rest of the chassis is ok on the 45 in the pic, it's just this part that's got me :bad-words: The whole vehicle is to be rebuilt ground up pretty soon.

All thoughts appreciated,

HJ.

I don't think you would have to have pulled very hard to crack that crossmember, It is totally rooted. The short answer is using another cross member will be quick and easy, Making a strong cross member will be harder but ultimately better.

What would be the best stuff to make a new crossmember be? Say U section that's 4 mm thick or something like that? I'd prefer something stronger than what's there now.
