Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Other than ARB,

can anyone tell me who in brisbane can fit an airlocker for me? I can remove the diff to save time / $$. (Good or bad experiences please, as I don't want to take my diff to someone who is going to rip me off).

just do it yourself. and put the extra $$$$ into a tank of fuel or 2 to test the new locker!

If I could get hold of a dial guage and a decent set of verniers, I would do it myself. It isn't rocket science. Trouble is, of the workshops I have spoken to so far, they seen talk to me like I'm a fuggin idiot.

If you can do it yourself but don't have a set of verniers or a dial gauge then go out and buy them. You could get the best ones available for less than the cost of paying someone else to fit one locker.

And why not ask ARB??

I'll do it and install it for ya if ya want for a cheap price ( you supply the locker of course) I've done heaps I'm a qualified mechanic that always could do with the cash on the side and used to work for arb.

ask "boltaction billy" i just reciently did his front ARB air locker and diff rebuild, i installed the locker, rebuilt the diff, installed it into the patrol and installed and wired the compressor too.
He's wrapped with his.

Yes mate, have asked ARB. They want $480 standard fitting charge. Regardless of whether or not I can make the job any easier for them. And after the muck around just getting the locker (from ARB of course), I'm not too keen to do much business with them so soon.

One thing that does come with the locker though (and I suppose some credit is due to ARB) is a very detailed set of fitting instructions. It should help also.

l'm getting my locker for my 100 series set up for $100, thats with me removing and refitting the centre.
That is from a guy at a diff shop where he does heaps of locker installs.

Depending on how long ago that was it is possible that was Steve(oozuk) as he used to work there.

HaHaHa Bloody Grubby (Ian) Thats all he does at ARB Well if he isnt fitting Airlockers he is working on the owners GU comp ute! Grubby is an awsome mechanic and really knows his stuff! Knowing Grubby he calls it a backyard job yet he probly still takes it to ARB and does it! I worked there in 06 i know what he is like

If it's for a Daily Driver, get it shimmed whilst it's out. ARB centres have too much slop.

Won;t effect strength, just lash and clunk.

Really? Ive fitted 20+ ARB centres and have yet to find this issue.

Shim the pinion bearing preload? only if it needs it

Shim the bearing hieght? Only if your changing the rind and pinion set

Yes the side gears.
Maybe I'm just fussy, anal, or dumb, but mine and 3 others I know all have much more centre gear lash than the standard toyota centre. Once they were shimmed up (must admit, had it done, didnt' do it myself), lash was all gone.

When I PM'd the ARB guy on here he didn't argue, but said it was due to tolerances from the 3 peice assembly compared to the factory 2 peice assembly.

AWD cuiser notices lash, irritates the p*ss out of me. Not anymore.
Maybe you don't hear the clunk above the worn bushes and centipedes.
