Unusual squeak

Over the last couple of weeks the 2.8td has developed an unusual squeak.
Happens in 3rd or 4th gear at approx 2000rpm when engine is under load(going up an incline mainly). Doesnt happen on the flat at the same revs/gears.
I have replaced the fan belts(although the alternater pulley is a little worn) a month or so ago and the tension is still good on them.

Squeak seams to be coming from the rear of the engine(as it also happens when starting or stopping the engine) and is quite pronounced from the drivers seat.

Im thinking it could be either alternator bearings(plan to remove belts and try) or engine mount(due to squeak happening when vibration evident). It doesnt do it when stationary and reving engine and the engine doesnt appear to have excessive movement.

Checked the suspension over when the belts were changed(as i replaced the wheel bearings) and every thing seamed ok apart from drivers lower ball joint, which showed some play.

Anybody else got any other suggestions?

not the beginning of the speedo cable squeaking is it?
it took me a couple of months of gradually getting a louder squeak before it was obvious it was the speedo cable. the speedo had an intermittant shake in it.
while driving and you can hear the squeak, throw the clutch and see if the squeak is still there. ie if it's engine/drive train related or not.

ps. still waiting on the speedo cable to come from japan!

as soon as i dip the clutch(keeping throttle the same) the squeak goes(even pressing clutch a little bit, so that it slips).
will have a look at the speedo tomorrow.
