2.0 litre Astron

My brother has a 1984 lwb 1litre powered sierra and i have found a 2.0litre Astron motor out of a Sigma on the g/fs property that i can have for free! It has the RWD gearbox and everything ready to go the only thing is the motor is seized... From what they have told me the car was sitting out in the elements for over a year without being started and thats why it siezed up. How should we try to free it up? Or would it definatley need a rebore and rebuild?
Is it a fairly easy conversion to swap the motor and gearbox over to the sierra? Has anyone done this swap? Have any tips or hints etc? I've never done an engine swap but i'm ready to give it a go!

be a bit heavy.
for the street or the padock basher?
redzook (tassie) did a galant motor, basically same thing into his one before pintara came along

Its more of a paddock basher than anything, is still licensed so may be driven to local bog holes or beaches but nothing more than that really. So the astron motors are abit heavy are they? It looked like an alloy head to me but the block could possibly be cast iron? I'll have to have a closer look next time i get the chance.
Redzooks conversion was to a sierra box wasnt it? I don't think the little 1litres box would handle the power somehow

The Astron motor is pefectly suited to a car as sh1tty as a Sigma ...
IE: sh1tty motor.
Good for scrap value only.
Mitsubishi cut corners everywhere.
EG: If you need 45kg of iron to make an engine block then Mitsushitty will use @ 38 kg iron and 7kg of silica, carbon and other cheap ass crap to make it up.
The result is a block that wears quickly.
Same deal for their manifolds, especially inlets. Ask anyone who has tried to weld one, they aren't all Aluminium.

drove a 2.0L Sigma for about 8 years ... save your energy for something else.
gutless, thirsty and not particularly reliable (okay, but nothing special). block is cast iron. if you did decide to go ahead, don't bother rebuilding one ... i bought a reco'd second hand long motor for my Sigma for $650, and had it swapped with existing for $200. Non-reco'd but working were about $250 each. I can't imagine that prices have gone up in the 6 years since I did that......

the other car in my sig is powered by a sigma motor. nice motors. for free worth it, id be more looking towards the later lancer 1.8 or 2.0 motor if i was going to do anything

I'll pull the head off and have a little look at the internals and see how bad its siezed up. If its too shitty i'll just leave it and see if we can find a rolla motor or similar to drop in. Thanks for the warning fellas
