Why do I need a snorkel?

I've been meaning to make up a snorkel for quite some time now.
Today I went out to find some cheap pipe, no luck unfortunately.

When I told my flatmate (who drives a diesel Rocky  ) what I was planning, he laughed.

"Why do you need a snorkel on a petrol engine? As soon as you plugs go under your screwed anyway. It's just for wank factor isn't it?" He said.

:bad-words: :bad-words: Just because he has owned a Rocky for about a week, he reckons he can start lecturing me about what my Zook does and does not need.

So, help me out, tell me why I do, or do not need a snorkel!

...because no engine can breath under water.

Just fit a snorkel then allow him to follow you through a deep crossing... seeing as his diesel engine doesn't need one ;)

It depends on how good your leads are, how good the rubber boots are on the ends, how good the seal is in your distributor cap, and whether or not you're running electronic ignition or points (if its the Suzi in the pic, I'd say it's electronic).

Let the engine breathe AIR, and waterproof the rest, it will supprise you how far you can go underwater.

I cop this from an idiot at work too, Me I'd rather my engine stall than hydraulic personally. And there are more reasons than that to fit a snorkel, and home made jobs are sooooooo cheap it's not funny.
