Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey everybody, for the last year or so my 83 hilux has always had a crooked steering wheel which i have gotten use too but it is still annoying, can anybody tell me what the best way to get it back to straight is?

-Turn the wheel full lock to one side and mark the top of the wheel.
-Then go lock to lock and count how many turns it is.
-Turn the wheel back half the number of turns it is from lock to lock, this is the center of your box.
-With the box on center remove the wheel and replace it so it is straight.
-To remove the wheel you may need a puller but try this, pull off the center cover, loosen off the retaining nut so it is flush with the thread on the end of the steering colum, grab the wheel and pull it towards you and hold the pressure on it, get somebody else to hit the end of the colum with a hammer.(be careful you may have horn wire attached to the wheel).
-Some wheels can be incredibly tight and may not move this way, you may need a proper puller.
-Once you get the wheel off and straighten it up put the retaining nut back on hand tight and go for a test drive as the wheel may require a fine adjustment. Once your happy with the position tighten the retainging nut again.
-If you find that when the box is centered that your wheels aren't pointing straight you will need to adjust the length of you drag link.

NEVER hit the shaft with a hammer. You risk colapsing the column. Just undo the nut a little and put both feet on the firewall/floor and grab the steering wheel at opposite sides and alternatly pull towards you with your right hand then left hand. It wont take much and it will pop off. Make sure you do not remove the nut compleatly or you will end up with a broken nose.

You are correct RUFF, I should choose my word more carefully. TAP the shaft with a hammer.

don't even tap it. just pull the wheel off like wuff said.

or just rooster your head to one side and live with it.

3Rd that may not need to turn the wheel that much it may only be out 1 spline put wheel where it sits driving down the road then once you've got it loose on the spline lift it off and put it back in the correct spot.
