Center Bolt- Leaf Spring
A bit of advice needed
Would i break my spring if i moved my center bolt back on the top leaf and re drilled the hole to move my diff back.
Its around a 75mm wide spring.

If the old hole is still within the clamped artea it shouldn't make a difference. It will slightly reduce wheel travel though (assuming the centre bolt is currently in the centre of the leaf.

or re-drill the perch rather than the spring... springs are "srping steel" (funny that) which is very difficult to drill - apparently.
Heaps of hilux guys just re-drill the front perches to move the diff fwd a few (20ish)mm

Same with the zook guys, re-drill the perch and spring plate to get that little bit extra. If you are after more than an inch or so, consider moving the spring mounts.

Ya 'home handyman' drill set wont hack it
A tugsten tip drill bit (IE: concrete bit ) can do it once its sharpened up like a std bit....... then its a matter of getting the drilling speed slow enough, and a good supply of cutting coolant / compound.
but .......
if you have access to a punching machine its all over in a second
2 things to consider............
1/
The old centre hole WILL be a weak spot if you manage to drill a new hole, so make sure the old hole is sandwiched between the fisher plate & spring pearch for some strength.
2/
The cost of a custom made new top leaf with your centre hole location isnt that bad in comparision to a failed spring pack out in the middle of no-where
Which is why it makes sence to shift the hangers instead of altering the spring paks / fisherplates & pearchs
And your cry-baby, whinyassed opinion would be.....?

what you said was .......
The "pearch" is on the diff....roverrat wrote:Dont be a jew ... move your spring perches
In an 'SUA' the diff is pearched on the spring pack
In an 'SOA' the springs are pearched on the diff
Hangers are on the chassis... & the spring packs 'hang' from them
Shifting the spring pearch would be a painfull job and gain very little
Shifting the hangers wouldnt be as bad a job but a far greater distance could be obtained.
it will all come down to the distance that the original poster wishes to move his diff,
up to 20mm could be done either by re-drilling the PEARCHES & FISHER PLATES or by re-drilling the top leaf of the spring pack
(NB: you cant do both together as the old hole in the spring pack WILL be exposed and therefore become a weak point. )
Want more than 20mm ............ shift the HANGERS.

Yes you can drill spring packs with a decent drill bit.
Yes I have done it in a hilux.
Yes the springs did snap on the old hole after a while, and was only
moved 30mm.
So no don't do it, drill you perch instead.
