I dont know what type of transfer case I have? How do you tell the difference between chain and gear driven?

its a 96 hilux 2.8d g52 gearbox.

gear driven will have 7 bolts on the rear out put cover.

with the rear cover oval in shape.

Chain driven will have 5 bolts and a circular rear cover.

Given year and model of car I would say you have the gear driven case, which means easy fitment of crawler gears, unlike my pos 4runa with the chain case. :x
