Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Went out to cruiser over easter, filled up the sierra with 98 something or other at BP...
I also filled my jerry can too.

It seemed to go ok on the way out there & for the first day. Wasnt till midday next day when I refilled using the jerry can. (emptied it into the fuel tank)...
Ever since after the drive back, every time I start it, it takes a good while to kick over.. Sounds like its running on 1 cylinder for a minute or two. And takes a while to "warm up". IE it bogs down when trying to take off. and also when you give it some throttle in 1st, second etc...

Its freshly rebuilt and has been pretty much running great since i bought it etc...

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this fuel? I thought it could be some sediment or something from the jerry can but i didnt think it would fould up so quick...

Mine won't run proper on 98, tho some people have no trouble.
Some moto racers say some bikes won't run proper on it, as the jets are too small for the "thicker" fuel...It could be true or all bs, tho?
Once you've refilled a couple of times, it may fix itself.

Sounds like the jerry is dirty/rusty to me.

I swear buy 98 octane BP ultimate, won't use any other fuel. I've tried all the other 98 octanes in my high compression V8 commy and on the BP stuff has been consistantly good. I also saw improvements in mileage in both the commy and sierra after a few tanks of ultimate. Like it's been said I'd put money on some sort of crap in your jerry.

I dont see the point in running a higher octane rated fuel, unless your running a higher compression engine turbo or supercharged motor. The higher the Octane rating means that its basically more of a retardant to igniting under pressure as in high compression ratio engines or one that is pact with alot more air from a Turbo. Being that the Sierra motor is pretty simple and not running late timing it needs all the help it can get so running a higher octane fuel just makes it harder to ignite the fuel.... IMO.......

It could be that the cleaning products mixed with higher octane fuel has dislodged a lot of crap clinging to the side of the fuel lines/tank etc and it all collected at the carb, thats why it may have taken a while to come up

Have a look under the car at the fuel filter it'll probably look like its got mud in it from all the crap in the jerry can. I had to change my filter every second time that I filled up from of our old steel jerry cans because of all the rust and crap that used to come out of them. Do your self a favour and buy a plastic jerry can, at least then it won't rust and you can see any sediment built up at the bottom of it.

P.s Donno if this applies to you but I was having the same trouble of the car taking ages to start, bogging down on acceleration etc (also after filling up with bp ultimate 98 octane, coincidence??) and one of the sparkplugs and HT leads had died.
