Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Im looking at getting a truck with a BB in it but it has a rear main leak.

What is invoved in changing a rear main on a BB chev??

ie: what type of seal is it?

Depends on the year... but probably
Rope seal.

Have fun.. Not hard but a big job for a $5 seal.

I thought later BB chevs had rubber or you may be able to replace rope with a rubber one. If it is rubber you can do it with sump off, rear main off and slide old out with new sliding in. I have only read this somewhere, I haven't done it for real.
