Hello to all, I have a 91 80 series GXL with the 1HZ in it and was looking at doin a turbo conversion on it. I'm mechanically minded pretty handy at fabrication (almost finished a pretty wild build up on a vl calais turbo) and I was wondering if anyone has done a backyard conversion themselves? I have a T3/T4 (Hi flowed turbo off a VL) turbo in the shed and was wondering if it would be suitable? I was thinking it may be a little on the big side, so would i be better off selling it and getting something a little smaller like a standard VL turbo, or one off a VG30 or something similar with a T3 style flange? Also i was having a look and i think i should be able to make a T3 style adapter to suit the standard non turbo exhaust manifold, has anyone done this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

i run a t3/4 on my gq, its a good size for top end but being its not a bb turbo it is a little less responcive than something smaller like a factory gu turbo.

for what it will take to make the adaptor it will cost you under 500 to buy a cast turbo manifold with a t3 flange from companys such as denco diesel.

the other option on a 1hz is to just chase down the factory turbo set up off a 1hdt and bolt it straight on

What would be the best size turbo for a 1HZ? I want it to start boosting as low in the rev range as possible
