Outer Limits 4x4 Board

im going from a 2' spring lift on my 98 sierra with 30' tyres to a 4" spring lift with 31s . I wanted to make it a little more stable, so i thought about getting some wheel spacer. just wanting to know if anyone has them or has seen them before?

Just be ware that they are illegal. Might be better off getting rims with a bigger offset instead.

Wheel spacers are Illegal, and can not be engineered. If you get your rims flipped for greater offset, you should be able to get the engineered. What offset do you have now?

actually nothing you are doing is legal in QLD

I have a set of 1.5" spacers in mine 'for offroad use only'.
I had a set of F100 Sunraysias but swapped to Bathurst Globes with a lot less offset. To get the offset back I fitted the spacers because you cant get alloys flipped.
I got them off Ebay.com (Usa) for a LOT less than Snakeracing sells them for.
If you have decent offset already I wouldn't recommend spacers as they do put a lot of extra strain on bearings and axles.

which bearings in particular do these stress the most. Obviously it "stress's" them all but would affect you wheel bearings or your swivel hub bearings more?

being in bearing sales it doesnt matter too much to me i just would like to know so i keep up to the maitinence

i'm in rutherford and we also have a branch in at wickham which i work in on some saturdays.

thanks for the info, im not sure on the offset i have at the moment i will check it out. i thought as long as the wheels were covered by the flares it would be legal. i was going to get a set of bush wacker flares to cover the wheels with the spacers.

Cut the centre of the rims out, turn it over and re-weld it in - larger offset.

Wheel spacers are ILLEGAL, no matter if the tyres are covered or not. Flipping rims refers to cutting the centre section out of the rim, and moving it in/out/flipping it to gain a bigger offset (or smaller whatever floats your boat ).

this week i just bought some 15x8 sunnies with a -28 offset . i test fitted the rim and it sits the rims just a bit outside the flares (85 swb w/rubber flares) then add the extra width of a 10.5 or 11.5 it widens the track by heaps more than a 2 inch spacer would. and it would be closer to legal than the spacers would

with the spacer i'd have no arguement with a cop, its illegal. i'd just wear it.

as far as i'm aware offset isnt illegal. i'm just not sure on rim width if its only a no no for your insurance company or if its an actual defect. (in nsw)

and i wouldnt want to lead this guy down the wrong path with mis information

Is anyone else worried by this part? why not fit a 2 inch body lift instead of the spring lift?

I'm running spacers on my offroad-basher zuk, but like others have said, wheelspacers are illegal. And they arent too hard to spot either if they are taking a look at your car...

Although, I'm pretty sure modifying rims is illegal too. This would refer to the cutting/welding of the rim. Technically speaking drilling a new hole for internal beadlocks is modifying the rim...

BUT, if your going to 4" of spring lift (as in spring over??? = very illegal in qld...), then its not gonna be all that legal anyway.

Also, wheel spacers means you have double the amount of nuts to do up, and have double the risk of nuts coming loose when driving... I know someone whose lost a wheel at 70km/hr... Not for me! I spent a good amount of time making sure my spacers & rims were on nice and even & tight (but not too tight and NOT with a rattlegun!!!)




You can get 15x8 suzuki stud pattern rims with -28mm offset off the shelf. No illegal spacers, no modifying the rims. Only about 70 bucks a rim...

My mate runs em with 31" x 10.5" MTZ's & i think it has a nice stance on it for 31's... Tyres fully clear springs at lock too!

GRPABT1: why not fit a 2 inch body lift instead of the spring lift?

i did think about this, but was put off the idea when a mate of mine had his chassie bend because of the body lift.

ive decided to hold off on the lift and will get some rims with a bigger offset, after checking it out with my insurance policy.

Also if you've got a 98 sierra it would be a coily. Not sure if they make 4" springs for them but regardless I would prefer a 2 + 2 if you really wanted to go this way. You could get this passed by QT technically but spacers are illegal, increase in track width (even using rims) can only be 50mm and you can only legally go 15mm bigger in tyre diameter than the factory 26". In case you don't realise I will make you are aware also that in Qld if you get caught you will get fined, lose points and go to court. I no it probably won't stop you doing it like it didn't stop me but coming from experience (been caught) it really isn't worth it. As for an accident when your insurance is void...god help you. Just so you realise what you're up for.
