Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hello fellow 4x4ers. I have just recently aquired my first 4x4 (95 Hilux 2.8D) and i have already commited by producing a engagement ring. I have only taken it on sand twice, once at Boat Harbour (Kurnell), and just the other weekend at Stockton beach. Both experiences being a great learning curve. Although i am still yet to know about technical things such as gear ratios, diff ratios etc.
I have read through the bible but cannot find what i am after. It was mentioned to me that i should change either of these (not sure which as i was left bamboozeld about a quarter way into conversation) I was hoping that somebody could lead me in the right direction to turn my lux into a nice on and off rd cruiser.
A trip to tuff truck is on the plans more so not to watch the action but to learn about these awesom machines.

first we need to know what kind of driving you plan on doing. what size tyres you wish to run, how high you wish to raise it, but, generally, 2inch suspension lift is not much hassle, same with 2 inch body lift, and doing either or both of these mods should allow use of tyres up to 33 inch. if you want to run 35 inch tyres, it is recommended that you change diff ratios to 4.8 (preferred ratio for offroad luxes) or get reduction gears for your transfer case. normally, for a daily driver, 2 inch body and 2 inch suspension lift running 33s would be good on/off road. if you need more lift after that, look at extended shackles/ drop hangers or custom leaf packs. hope this helps,

But when you say that you want a nice on and off road cruiser, just know that one comes at the expense of the other. The better you make it for offroad the worse it may become onroad eg a big suspension lift will give you good clearance for offroad obstacles but high speed cornering on the highway could be a lot worse.
