I had a similar problem in my 60 with an aftermarket headlight relay. Finally tracked it down to a bad connection in the right high beam, resulting in the high indicator in the dash not working, which stuffed everything! Go figure. Toyota do some funny things with their switches.
Solved the problem with a black box from Pirahna, which plugged into the original right hand headlight wiring.
