Looking at getting myself another Vitara.
But..... want more power..
was looking at getting a carby model & ripping out the motor/gearbox/transfer & replacing with 1.8L to 2L 4 cilinder injected motor/gearbox and mating to isolated serria transfer...

Am I just being a knob..
Should I just get the 1.6L injected and work it to up the power..

options?? (motor/gearbox)

transfer 1L or 1.3L strength/gearing options V $$$

any legal problems with QLD transport??

Has any one done any thing like this??

Whats your budget? Why do you want to change to a sierra tcase? What can/cant you do yourself?

Given the details, Id look at a ca18det or sr20det. Im not aware of anyone putting either of these into a vit but nothings impossible given time and money. Plus it would be a sweet end product.

Rotary is another option, as is turbocharging your vit motor. Have a look at oozuk's build thread in members for some ideas. Hell you could probably fit a 1uzfe in there if you really wanted.

Read this thread and tell me that you dont want to turbo yours.

Not a huge budget.. (rip out the vitara motor and chuck it in the serria before I flog it off)

Was thinking sierra tcase so I can keep motor/gearbox (clutch, etc) as factory. (no modified belhousing etc. & has to be cheeper on parts than the vitara, my old 91 Vit ran sweet but as soon as any thing went wrong with the motor $$$$$$$)

can do most of it my self (read country boy with welder, old man's ex-boliershop, would have to get drive shafts made/ballanced but could call on some old friends...)

don't know much about the rotary option all my info. is old school (good power for $$$ but rebuild every 2 years unless this has changed, need relible & low maintain costs)

Have had bad experiences with turbocharging, had a 2.4L TD Surf (yes I know......#^%$&)

will look at the ca18det, sr20det or 1uzfe option.

What power can the serria transfer take? have done a search and answers are all over the shop...

I failed reading comprehension at school so excuse my confusion, but is this engine you are asking about going in a sierra or vit?
Was thinking sierra tcase so I can keep motor/gearbox (clutch, etc) as factory.
This is the line that threw me.

ca18 and sr20 are both turbos and the 1uz is a v8. Honestly, Id just be looking at an injected 16valve from a vit or baleno. Cheap and easy.

Now understand your confusion....
Looking at getting a Vitara..
not happy with the power of the 1.6L...
the 2L Vitara motor from what I've heard is crap..
the 2.5L V6 = more redgo & costly parts

As I said looking for 1.8L to 2L 4 cylinder (and to keep motor/gearbox as donar car factory (problem is limited RWD donars), therefore the need for serria transfer...)

and yes I want it to be QLD legal, daily driver...
So looking for realistic motor/gearbox swaps....
