tailshaft problem

i have changed my gearbox in the hilux from chain driven transfer to geardriven and have now the problem of the holes on the tailshaft being different to the holes on the flange has anyone had this problem what did you do to fix it

on surfections rig (the now gone surf) we *cough* drilled 2 of the holes out and bolted them and *cough* *cough* welded it in a few places to the flange *cough* but that was just a temp booty fab so we could go wheeling
but you best bet would be to get anther drive shaft with the right flanges to match the output on the tranny

will be a matter of finding a uni joint of right size or changing yoke on shaft to suit which is definitely best done by tailshaft specialist for balancing etc.

Why not just try and swap the output flanges over, put the one off the chain case on the gear case. I don`t know if they have the same splines or not but it would only take you 10mins to find out.
I run a front output flange on both te front and rear out puts on my t case and have drilled 4 new holes in the rear one so that it can take 2 different types of shafts, one has a cardinal and the other doesn`t.

i think from memory half the problem we were having was that the out put on the chain driven case was 23splines and the gear was 21 spline or it was the other way round

i am thinking that if i take the flange off clamp it to the cardinal joint and re drill it 90 degrees out it will be easiest

No, rotate it 45 degrees to drill into the flange. The bolts are really there for shear strength (as in cut, like a guillotine) the centre line of the shaft is kept in line by the raised ring on the driveshaft flange to locate in the rebate of the drive flange from the case or the differential.
Failing that, just change out the driveshaft flange with another one that will fit, I think the uni cross is the same size so it will slot right in.

What adaptor did you use and do you still use the original forward shifting mechanism or topshifting?

there is no adaptor i swapped the whole gearbox and transfer
re drilled
