80Ser Diff Center?

I( have found a 80ser Sahara 4.1 diff canter with a factory diff lock for my D1 to go with the Hilux rear, has anyone used one of these before.

I have not seen the center yet and do not know what side the motor is on, or how big it is(they are electric). Because if it flows on the sump it will be no good.

All i know is that the motor actuator assembly is on the right hand side and is quite large from what i recall but it should fit still.
Also the holes for bolting up the centre are different to a standard 80 diff.

It will fit, I have fitted one to the front of my 88 rangie.

couple of holes to tap, but no biggie.

I there a easy way to line up the centers in the housings.

Do any of the holes line up to make it simple (can only hope)? Or just put the center in with the axels and hope I get it in the right spot? any help would be nice like how did you re-attach the steering dampener.

there is a jig floating around on the eastern seaboard... but not too difficult, I machined up the relative stubs etc, assembled the unit and the axles guide the centre to the desired position, I then used a gasket to mark and then drilled the holes out.

put in the studs etc and your away.

Thanks for that, sounds easy enough.
As I said I have a 4.1 to1 / 80 ser for the front if I can’t get a 4.1 for the back is 4.11 close enough not to matter or will it still wind up.

It will still wind up as I have seen someone else on here do that and have problems with it.
You'll need 4.1's front and rear as they have to be matching ratios or it will wind up and cause so serious problems for you.

yes will cause issues with full time 4x4.

On road, I would expect the unlocked centre diff to cope with the difference between 4.1:1 and 4.11:1.

Off road with the centre diff locked you should be ok.

I have 80 series front and 4.11 out of 2 wheel drive hilux ute in the basck in mine and in 10,000k no dramas. it could be 4.1, but its whatever is in 2 wheel hiluxes.

Thank guys I have found a 4.1 from a hilux 8/88 on they are all 4.1 or 4.3.
I found a post on another forum that tells you how to work out the diff/ axel code in Toyotas so there is no mucking around.

I hadn't read that thread before.

I do not doubt that v8 rangie had a real problem and fixed it. I don't know him, so have to accept what he found and posted.

However, the difference between 4.11:1 and 4.10:1 diff ratios will have the same affect as a difference of 0.085" (2.2mm) in the outside diameter of 35" tyres. This is indisputable.

Now 0.043" or 1.1mm tyre wear or a small difference in tyre pressure will do that. Now I have run tyres with much more difference in wear than that (half worn muddies one end and new muddies at the other end) and I have not had any probs.
