The U12 Pintara KA24E engine 96KW from the factory. Nothing special really.
The U13 Bluebird engine the KA24DE is 112KW. Better engine by far.
KA24DE runs 16 valves, DOHC. Valve set up is buckets and shim's.
The DE is the pick.

edit : I must remember to post techy stuff in tech .. I would assume that is from a TRX?

They may be nothing exciting, but they seem to go forever! Seen a couple pushing 400k without too many dramas.

I would of said it would be a CA20, but it has been a while since I have the pleaser of working on one. Something about "Twin fire distributor, comes to mind, spark plug leads used to play up, but again it was a long time ago.
cheers Phill.
PS it will be stamped on the block

As part of the engine number

As I said, POS, the CA20 was the twin spark plug jobbie & was always doing cap, rotor, leads, coils ect. People would not change the plugs on the inlet side without realising that they were the plugs it ran on 90% of the time. These were mainly in the Series III Bluebirds.
The KA24 did have a twin spark option but they did away with it after a while, still a POS but was pretty powerful for its time, horrible car to drive, just so boring.
Anybody remember the ad "pirouetting Pintaras"?
They were never going to sell any with an advertising campaign like that.

The KA24E never had a twin spark head. The Z24E used in the early 90's Pathfinder had a twin spark head.
The CA20E twin spark is a POS I know.
I am not trying to start a argument just trying to put the facts forward.
The KA24E aint gonna going to be the most powerful engine ever but the reliable and just keep running.
Roverrat I assume you an older bloke who thinks if its not a V8 its not good enough.
The KA24E and KA24DE dont leak oil or have electrical gremlins, you should look into them.
You have your view just like everyone else.

I had a TRX for a few years was a great car and not any issues exept the gear box goes on them because of the pressure from the lsd back onto it and the timing belt goes so watch that mate. As for putting a turbo on one i doubt it would take it. I did however thrash the ever loving s.hit out of it lowered it put cold air induction on and a straight through mandrel bent system on it. It did some very impressive burn outs and could do 180 in 4th gear. Miss it sometime but it was no good as a 4x4 so had to go.

No Z or KA series has a timing belt. They're all chain driven.
The CA20 was the timing belt driven motor.
KA24E is a good motor - not a stunner for performance - but solid. They suffer noisy lifters if the wrong oil is used and they can be easily damaged by this. Timing chains also get noisey as they get older. These issues usually won't affect their longetivity provided you don't rev the guts out of them.

The KA 24 motor is a good thing, but stay a way form the pintaras, when i used to work at Nissan the autos would always have problems. Only on the 2.4 not the 2.0l. From memory it was the "T" "Ti" and "TRX" that had the 2.4. The exexutive and GLi had the 2.0L (CA20) used from the series 3 Bluebird.
If you want the 2.4, go the U13 bluebird, heaps better car to drive and build quality was exelent. Also those cars a cheap now and the auto seemed a lot better than the pintara
Hope you find a good one...

I had a 1991 Pintara Ti manual. Was a nice comfy car to drive especially on long trips. However the motor had some very annoying problems when I had it. Noisy hydraulic tappets and timing chain although replaced caused constant problems. I sold it 8 years ago so a little hazy on details. I might of got a lemon but either way I'd never get that engine again.
Never actually stopped though so never left me stranded anywhere.
I remember it had the little side lights that came on to see out to the side of the car when the indicators were on.
Definitely was not twin spark but the 2 litre version was.
Definitely had timing chain and not belt.
Never had any issues with it other than the engine.
Was it the same engine as in the Navara of similar vintage?
Also was in the Bluebird I think.
