Even though people have been bitten buy nissan most people that would buy a patrol know the strengths of a cummins motor and would probably change there minds about going back
i guess with a cummins in it you could take it to a truck place to get engine work done

I was in Oz recently....
The rumor I heard in Oz was that the next gen. of Patrol is going to have a Cummins in it. That is all I am saying though....

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a high HP/Torque engine, but dont want the computerized crap to go with it, the price tag to go with it, and the nightmare that is dealing with Nissan for warranty.. You've read the threads on Patol4x4, exploroz, OL, 4wd mtly, overlander and then theres the thousands that have never been on the internet..
Have a look how people have been treated on the patrol forum for ANY warranty work. Would you risk it on a $20k engine?? Cummins wont be cheap to rebuild thats for sure.. specially a new high tech one. Although it would be the best thing Nissan could do **IF** it evewr made it to Australia.
But with diesel prices heading the way of the space shuttle, diesels are losing any advantage they ever had for the majority of people would would buy a patrol - soccer mums.
YMMV

If nothing else, it could be good for generating a good batch of off-the-shelf conversion bits.

I heard from someone they were going to get Renault built motors, hope that's not true as then no one would touch them!

I don`t think their talking about the 6bt motor.
It`s a large motor both physically and in capacity. It would put a lot of weight on the front end.
Dodge is however planing to introduce a new V6 Cummings into its line up in 2010. Maybe that's the one they are talking about.

whatever they do I will be absolutely blown away if it is anything to drool over.
Since when has Nissan ever had anything exciting under the hood compared to Toyota for example. Except the 4.8 of course
Everything under the bonnet of patrols always seems to be made/produced to come in under a cost rather than for outright performance/wank factor.
Good in some ways for some though I guess.
I agree with bogged about service costs / warranty issues too. Diesel technology has plenty left in it yet though so I think they will still be popular for a while. Though cost vs advantages is an argument that will go on forever

I don`t know about the performance / wank factor, but I would much rather have my old td42 than the handgranades the new Toyota v8 desiel appears to be.

My mate is selling his turbo petrol GU 4500 as he has order a Toyota Sahara V8 twin T. What issues are they having?

I was told the pistons and rings were suffering early wear problems.
This was approx 12 months ago and on the first ones brought to Australia.
I don`t know if its still a problem.

I cannot find the original artical I read, it was on a Dodge Ram site in the US showing 2009 and 2010 updates on the Rams.
Below is some early development on the v6 and v8 diesels from Cummins
http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/d..._v8/index.html
V6, 4.2L with 270 hp
and not much more wieght than a TD42
Now that I could handle.

European dealers were told that the Y62 will get a V6 diesel with 250-280hp, BUT not in europe (again) because of tax and tree huggers. We will get a reworked ZD30 as far as info says.

Well while I am in the states I can get hold of pretty well any of the current Diesels. Does anyone know of anyone in Australia that has fitted an engine other than the 6.2/6.5 Chev into a GU Patrol.
I can get access to the Duramax, Powerstroke and of course the Cummins both old and new. I am thinking if I have to do a one of custom then I would probably be better bringing back on of the V8's with Tranny and Transfer.
Interestingly all of the new Diesel muscle here is now common rail injected, Ultra Low Sulfur compliant and is full of electronic, guess Bruce will just have to go back to a GQ or something.

there have been a few threads on the Duramax, apparently they are round 4-6inches too long to fit up, apparently the powerstroke (is that the 7.3?) is longer.
guess Bruce will just have to go back to a GQ or something.
happy with the GU

the vehicle isnt finished yet...so i dont want to ruin the big launch of the new truck. just sit tight for the moment. it will be a comp truck so there are plenty of mods. not sure whether a daily/tourer would be worthwhile.

Mate if any engine that is 4.2lt and weights more than a TD42 in this day and age. they can stick it. The TD42 is a good motor. But fark there heavy for there size. 6.6duramax is about the same weight.

To add a bit more,
It looks like Dodge will be producing Nissan light trucks for 2011 at their Mexican plant.

i was told by my Nissan dealer that the next motor will be a Renault 3ltr 6 cyl
which is apparently already being tested hear in Australia. and after talking to the national sales manager they have no interest in bringing large capacity diesels to aus.
Toyota sell cars cause of there power and Nissan cause of there economy.
the other problem is they are talking about bringing the us equivalent hear which has independent suspension all around
i know if the bring a car like this hear ill never buy another Nissan again
