12v alternator on 24v mq patrol.. need help

hi all. i have a 24v diesel ute and i want to put a 12v alternator on it to run lights fridge and uhf and stuff like this.. just wanting to know if anyone else has done it.. just after some ideas and maybe some photos of how they hae done it.. cheers

24volt lights engels run on 12v and 24v

get a inverter for uhf radio, etc.


easier than trying to shove a 2nd alt on

yeh a seperate 12v system.. then wll run 2 baterys i a box on my tray so i can run the waeco for a few days straight and not have to worry about not being able to start the car... also means i can leave uhf and cd player on and not worry..

yer mate there is a fair few tht have done this i am one of them was not hard mine is above water pump and uses ac belt (may need one tht is a bit longer) if u dont have ac put it there and as far as wiring if you havnt done much electrcal work get some quotes from some auto electicians

I'm about to go the other way, mountig a 24v alt for my winch batteries.

I already have a second 12v holden alt mounted where the a/c compressor was.
I just put a double pully on it to match the a/c belt alignment

Grab a falcon or commodore 85A bosch alternator, $40 or so at pick-a-part. If you can fab up a bracket and mount it on the engine somewhere and get a belt on it so it turns, I would say we can talk you through the wiring side of it pretty easily.
