mate your probably gunna cop a bit of a thrashing for posting a thread for this.

did your car come with an owners manual???

it will tell you in that exactly where your dip stick is. although you should be able to find it. have a bit more of a look. it will be a cirle shape. and will be close to your motor i would imagine.

people will need to know in more detail what you mean by stud pattern. what are you after??? are you looking for the diameter that the holes run on???

If the same as other zuks its 5 on 5 1/2 , not sure on dipstick but size should be on the side of the engine and on the id plate under the bonnet.

Ooookay.... Let's assume you don't have the owner's manual.

The cars build plate will be on the firewall. It's a blue plate. It contains the cars VIN, Engine number, and other codes for options, colour etc.

If it's a 1.6, the engine number will commence with G16
If it's a 2.0, the engine number will commence with J20

on G series motors, the dipstick is near the front left of the engine if you're standing at the front of the car, facing the engine. I don't know if suzuki changed the look of the dipstick as late as 1999, but if it's a G motor the dipstick is usually a little black plastic "T" handle. It will be near the top radiator hose.

I'm not sure where the dipstick is on a J20.

Here's a new copy of the Vitara manual I found. It's awesome for simple questions like yours and can really help you out. The regulars on here might want to check it out too.

Wow, I cant wait to help you out with any further enquiries you may have.

I will however give you a couple of links for your perusal as Ive been getting in trouble lately for flaming noobs.

http://www.suzukiinfo.com/ (which is in the bible btw) will have the answers you seek re the dipstick and stud pattern.
You can download a manual from there.

www.gaymatchmaker.com.au will relieve you of all that nasty aggression and repressed sexual frustration. Check it out. Best of luck with your dipstick.

Dip stick

Post by Impulsive »

I actually had the same question when I got my J20A powered (4-cyl 2-litre) Vitara.

The reason I couldn't find the dipstick was because the handles get brittle and snap off after a while.

The STUB of where your dip stick used to be (if you have the same engine as mine) is between cylinders 2 & 3 right beside the rocker cover pointing directly up.

To fix mine, I pulled it out with pointy nose pliers, then drilled a little hole in the metal bit in the centre of it after filing down the remainder of the yellow plastic bit.

Into the hole, I put a key ring so I could pull it out by sticking my finger in the keyring.

.... or you could also just buy a new one from Suzuki... lol
