I have an 03 TD lux and have noticed a clunking noise when I change gears from the rear end. Its not very loud but you can tell its there.
My main question is are these diffs prone to getting worn out around the 100K mark? This noise may be a uni possibly or tailshaft but its so darn hard pin pointing this while driving! Any ideas would be great.

Cheers Cody.

All the bearings in your diff center are under a small amount of load. It makes them take the load of driving over the entire face. If this preload has change it can effect your backlash which is how far and where the teeth of your diff mesh into each other.
My hilux pinion bearing started to go at about 110,000km and when i got it rebuilt i was told it was worn beond beable to get the backlash set up perfectly right.
