Outer Limits 4x4 Board

my mate has a Vitara and has been through 4 tanks as of today. It seems to have sucked its self in and crushed the fuel pump. We thought that it was from under carage damage but nothining we did today could have done the damage that has been done. If anyone knows of or heard anything simular then can you let me know. My thought was to run the pump under the bonnet and cancle out any tank problems... duno?

Change the fuel cap from a sealed back to a vented.

A good start would be to find out why the tank is sucking itself inside out. It should have a breather to eliminate this problem, small rubber hose usually runs up next to the filler hose from on top of the tank. Check first to see if it has one then make sure it is not blocked.
Next step, replace tank again and run setup as per normal. Check to see if it does it again.
You could change to a lift pump to small surge tank then high pressure pump from there (if it is EFI) but doing this first won't fix the problem with the tank.

Cheers for the hints turns out that there must be a blocked breather line , i take it that the efi have breather lines and carb have breather caps.Im now waiting for a 65lt tank from brown davis but there so busy i cant get hold of anyone.does anyone know of any 4x4 speciaslists locally to eastern melbourne that could fit the tank. Id do it myself but i need all th lines checked.  Also just a query can water entering the air box have the same effect to the tank?

replace the charcoal canister...is a service item and should be changed every 100000 k's....this IS your tank breather!
