im turboing my 2.8 hilux. i will be putting the surf kit on it. now i was advised by some ppl to use the fuel pump off the surf cause it has a puff limiter(wat evere it its). now i want to no how to setup the fuel pump. ive heard that u have to advance the timing belt by one tooth to get it right, but how do u time it? im getting the fuel pump opened up on a test bench and fitting everything else myself. wat tools do i need to do it? wat settings and how. i have tried searching for it but couldnt find exactly wat i was looking for.

hey mate i wouldn't worry about using the injector/fuel pump just fit the turbo kit is it the 2.4 turbo surf kit that u r going to be running if so i had the same kit on my lux it went fine but dont run anymore than 10psi other wise the motor wont last i ran 14psi threw mine and it only lasted about six months but fark in went well but i'm pritty sure that they are an electronic pump, correct me if i'm wrong

hey
you dont need to advance the fuel pump by a tooth what you need to do is to spill time the pump which i recommend getting done by someone who knows what they are doing and if you keep the old pump in you will have to turn the fuel up. not the throtle up ether just the fuel rack. in my 2.4lt i rebuilt my engine and am running about 10psi boost with more fuel in then what i need only because you dont want the engine to starve for fuel as it will start to overheat and eventually stuff every thing.

depends on how much power you want out of it.
small gain ....you can get away with just upping the fuel a little bit on the standard 2.8 pump. increase it to much will cause over fueling when off boost, black smoke and crap fuel economy.
2.4 mechanical pump, much the same tho you should be able to increase fuel a lot more as the boost comp will stop over fueling when off boost. tweaking the boost comp can produce good results.
anything more fuel than that (eg increasing plunger etc) i would suggest getting a better turbo. they are a crappy turbo in stock form and a bit to small for big power on a 2.8.

WTF ??
excess fuel is what causes them to overheat and die. starving it just makes it go slower but more reliable.

my feul pump is ready and waiting now. its suposed to be setup up for a turbo 2.8. not lookin at running big boost just around 8psi. my brother is a heavy diesel mech by trade so we were hoping to be able to instal and tune it ourselfs, but havin never done one before we were intrested to no wat we needed and some specs.

i have a 2.8 with a surf turbo kit, got the fuel increased a little and a proper tune by a diesel mech and its sweet. no need to change pumps. i run 9psi and the guy that tuned it said the egt should not exceed 540 degree's that way the engine is safe.

That's not right, in a diesel more fuel = more heat, less fuel will just lose power.
Running a petrol engine lean will stuff it, but it won't hurt a diesel to run it a bit lean.
