Wow I was never so excited to get a package. It had Lloyds name on the return adress on the package, and mine on the adresee part. I dove across my living room to get to it.
Even came with a compliementary, pre worn, montero sport t-shirt.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the only front set of 5.29's in the continental USA, that will fit a genII 3.0, and they are in my house.
So Frank, these were used right, from the wreckers?
Just curious, they look to be in real good shape. Must not have has many kilometers on them, and the wear patern is excelent.
Thanks for finding these Frank, even though you didnt orginally find them for me.
When I get the cash again, I'll let you know about the rears, and that articulator.

Dougie, they were brand new from Mitsu, never been on a truck before.
It was a lesson learned that the Gen 2 3.0 V6 auto has the 7.5" front diff and the Gen 1 3.0 V6 has the 8" front diff. Even if they were the same size they are not interchangeable, the super select (active trac) front diff is a different gear cut and the pinion gear sits higher.
All 5sp Gen 2 and later auto's were all 8" front diffs but still not interchangeable with Gen 1 front diffs.
The rears are a different story, all 3.0 V6 Gen 1 & 2 shared the 9" rear diff and are interchangeable, the 3.5 V6 and 2.8 tdi had the larger 10" rear diffs.
Interestingly the Gen 1 front 3.0 V6 crown wheel & pinion is interchangeable with the rear of the Gen 1 4 cylinder (8") and this is what Swartzy eventually got (a 5.29 rear from our Gen 1 diesel) which bolted directly into his front.
Confusing stuff eh.......................
Just let me know when you want that rear 5.29.

Frank,
What is the original aplication of this gear set. What was it stock for?
I am just wondering if it was originally a rear axle ring and pinion, for another make, or another truck.
Just trying to hunt down LSD solutions thats all. I figure if this was a gearset for a rear diff, than maybe that rear diff also had an lsd that might work in my front.

They are from a Gen 2 91-93 2.5 tdi.
Lloyd's front is from the rear of the Gen 1 2.3 diesel his rear is the same as your rear one will be.
I know what your thinking, the only chance is the rear diff centre of the 4 cylinder bolting into the front of a V6, it's close but needs a bit of work.
Someone has already looked at it a while ago and new side gears would have to be cut to match the front axles and the case needs to be modified.

Frank do you know what lower ratios are available for a 2.8TDI?

Peter, unfortunately there are none. Yours will have the 4.90 ratio which is the larger 10" diff (same as 3.5 V6 but had 4.636 ratio).
If you had the 3.5 V6 (4.636) you could update to the 4.90 ratio, Ian Sharpe has done this mod.
The 5.29's we are talking about are for the 3.0 V6 diffs (rear is 9").
