weird problem after engine clean.

Hey guys about on Tuesday I degreased my engine bay with a can of degreaser let it work a little then washed it all off as you do.
However on Wednesday afternoon when I started it up something weird started happening.
At seemingly random points when I'm accelerating the engine just seems to loose power. I had a look in the engine bay and all of the leads are connected etc so I don't think I dislodged any terminals or anything.
The car has fuel in it so it hasn't run out (thats how our ride on seems to act when its out of fuel.)

My thoughts are that theres water in a spark plug maybe and every now and then it doesn't fire a cylinder, thats really all I can think of.

Also since the clean it seems to have a noise like someones added the sound of a pedestal fan to my normal engine noise.
(pretty bad description but just sounds like a fan blowing air noise.)

Am about to check it out now might take the plugs out and clean them.

I think it pretty much has to be water related, getting it somewhere it shouldn't have.

Anyone experienced anything like this or have any ideas on what it could be?

pull ur dizzy cap off and blow it out with some air n give it a spray of wd40 or contact cleaner. sounds like water in there. that sound may be ur engine fan...

oxygen sensor may have gotten water in it. i had this problem on my surf, bit of WD40 fixed it all up

ok pulled the plugs out and they seemed normal gave them a little clean and put back.

Took the distributor cap off and was all dry inside (been a day and a half tho, and there was dust smeared marks inside like water had trickled in)
Went to wipe one of the contacts and a lot of corrosion fell off the contact. same with all four little contacts. so wiped them clean and gave a squirt of wd40 in there put back together and started it up. Now the whole engine has a big wobble. I think I will go to ripco and replace the distributor cap and maybe get some new plugs.
I have a feeling the amount of corrosion that came off the little distributor contacts was a little too much and it must be firing one or more of the plugs.
Will keep you posted.

ur engine wont have a o2 sensor as its carby, by big wooble do u mean it moves alot side to side? does it run right ? or rough? if its running fine but moving alot id look at the engine mounts n see if they are broken.

Checked the mounts at first but they were fine. Was running very rough. But I have fixed the problem. I replaced the dist cap and put new plugs in, seems to be running fine. compared the new one to the old one and I can see why it wasn't ok there was way too much corrosion damage to the little points in the old cap. Thanks for all the info everyone very helpfull indeed.
