commo V6 into a G60??

Just wanting to know if anyone has done it yet... I imagine someone would have. And how does it go fitting into the engine bay.
Will prob be looking at sourcing a different g'box/auto to suit but we are just throwing some ideas round at the moment and see what we can come up with.
Basically the only reason we want to put a commo v6 in is so we can flog the living crap out of it, then when it goes bang, rip it out and bolt another in it.

why not bolt something in that you can flog the living crap out of and doesnt go bang??

It will all depend in what transfer case you plan to run !
There isnt many adaptor kts to the G60 transfer so you may be best swapping to a MQ/MK transfer. Remember the rear driveshaft is offset on the G60 and only the MQ/MK transfer is offset. The GQ, GU are all centered.
Still cars like Chubby run a offset transfer to a centered rear GU diff. But hey there not doing 100km/hr down the freeway.
If you then use a non Nissan I havnt a clue what off set transfer are out there .

Have a set of 60 series diffs with lockers and also have a g'box-transfer to suit them so might just mod it up to fit them under it. Wouldn't need to worry about the different offsets then.
Bogged.... just going for more of a cheap option rather.. something thats cheap and easliy available which is why I thought of a commo v6. Do you have any other ideas???

5lt Holden V8, fuel injected or on LPG. The LAST thing i would stick in a 3T Patrol would be a commodore V6, it would have NO b@lls, and wouldn't last too long getting flogged around. Fine in a lowlux, but not a patrol.
The 5ltrs are CHEAP, there's a plethora of go fast bits for them, and best of all - they are near on bulletproof.

I think the Supercharged V6 would be a good swap. They have reasonable torque and power and are pretty tough (upgraded internals from non s/c). There are also quite a few aftermarket parts to get them going. I'm guessing they are lighter than a TB42 too.

mate had one in a shorty, after he spun a main in his 308...
He loved the V6 and drove it hard... but the 308 went back in after 12-18mths.

Coxy... I havn't looked into the 5ltr's as I know nothing about them/how readily avail they are. As far as putin the v6 into a G60 goes.... I think the power to weight ratio wouldn't be that bad as a G60 would weigh around the same if not less than a lux.. especially once I chop the back half off only leaving the front guards, bonnet and doors + a smallish tray to carry a spare and some tools/spares.

Holden 308/5ltr came on the scene in around 1970 from memory, completely Australian motor (best thing Holden EVER had). It changed to an unleaded setup in about 1985, and then got fuel injection in 1989ish. They ran the same EFI 5ltr V8 from 1989 right through to about 2000 when they started using the piston slapping 5.7L GEN3's from Canada.
They've proven themselves many times over, seeing the odd 1000HP + motors isnt unheard of, and neither is it uncommon to see cars with HUGE km's on stock engines either. There's enough parts out there to set one up for low-mid range with serious torque, or even have an 8000RPM screamer.
I'm a Ford man, but i'll admit that the Aussie holden 5ltr is a real winner IMO.

My patrol chassised Hummer replica weighs in at 2040KG's, the stock ecotec V6 moves it fine, it cops a hammering too it has more than enough power to spin the 35's, it has the same acceleration as any V6 commodore and sits on 2100rpm at 110.

not sure on your underbonnet space - but wouldnt a falcon 6 be a simpler fit ??
(replace a straight 6 witrh a straight 6 ??)
Better torque than the v6. Cheap as.

Why do you say a falcon 6 would be simpler???
Im more inclined to go with the Commo v6 as it a more common reto fit into other models too.... so any unfore seen problems would be easily worked out. I would be changing the whole wiring harness etc to suit also so it would be a pretty easy swap at the end of the day. and an easy and cheap reinstall if the motor blows up.

I fitted a VN V6 2 years ago to a LWB MK along with the T700 auto. Great power and gets about 20 mpg at around 115 km/h. If you use the remote transfer you can put any engine/gearbox combo in.

ok... still throwing ideas around at the moment......
How would the Holden or Ford 5ltr V8's go for size into the old G60's??? Would it be too tight of a squeeze or not???

That would be to the G60 3 speed box??? I'm not going to be using that box as I want to keep the diffs & g'box from same type truck for alignment reasons on the shafts.
Cheers.
