As I said on the pootrol forum it was in the news last year that nissan were pulling the safari from the japanese market due to low sale figures.

New patrol relaease is later this year - should be here for May 09.
The Diesel will be a 3.6/3.7 turbo, which has come out of the partnership with that european company i cant think of the name of - its basically one of their engines dropped in the nissan.
Body looks about the same. Petrol is smaller than the current 4.8, more efficient, and a V6 (about bloody time).
Price-pointed with pov-pack entry at 55k.

yeah i second that
just talking to a guy in nissan's manufacturing latest rumors are japans dropping the safari but still exporting them to aus south africa and the middle east
and it will be a 3.6 litre v6 twin turbo diesel

designed by renualt (as renualt own about 40% of nissan)
i wasnt sure about this info at first as ive heard so many rumors but seeing Tom0's post just confirmed what i heard and clearly from 2 different source's
bout bloody time too this thing should be able to S&*% all over the 200 series cruiser
cheers

why would you want a v6 petty engine, they are high revving and offer lower torque then their straight six counter parts, imo stick with the straight six

Driven a new 200 series while working at the local mechanics, the Twin Turbo V8 diesel really needs some series work done on its take off. it lags, it lumbers around corners, really they needed to work on it a bit more,
sorry Toyota, 80 series was ok for an on road use, but the 200 series it too big and too slow off the mark.

The potential for a twin turbo to make it go like shit off a shovel is just out there. There will be soem huge HP ones gettin round within a year...

Yeah after market units will give it more, but Toyota's off the rack setup really is a disappointment

Any details on whether the next model Navara gets the same engine as the patrol?

Why would it? The ZD30 is coming near the end of its lifespan in passenger vehicles as it is now an old tech motor (despite the CRD revision).
The YD25 has replaced the ZD30 in most passenger vehicles around the world. The little ZD now only resides in big vehicles like the patrol, small trucks and busses.
D40 could very well see a larger powerplant (the engine bay is sized enough for a 5.6L petrol V8).

most industry people have been talking about the patrol, and the doubtful new model, if at all, for patrol replacement.
Only nissan would think it had one more facelift left in it, but dont expect a new line up any time soon, if at all for the patrol after that.

Mate has a V8 twin turbo L/C and it moves along really good. Very heavy vehicle all the same. About 3 tonnes.

Weeeel it looks like I'm a hangin on to the old GU 4.2TD for a while yet
A modern 3.6 td crd would be good.

Lets hope Nissan don,t stuff it up with some weak part.
