Anyone out ther been welding chassis mounts, i.e the points in the body where it's attached to the frame?
I've got some welding to do on my old mk-86, and was wondering if one goud get at it just by disconnecting the mounts and jack the body up frome the frame an inch or so?
Also, is there anything needing disconnection for such an operation, or will it flex/stretch enough?
It's my daily driver and i don't have time for a complete bodylift right now.

is it a shorty?

U will have to unbolt all of the bolts on one side to make a gap appear in between the body and the mounts and u will be able to get at it all except the top of the mount with a welder i think.
every thing will be fine if ur droping it back to standard after welding though it might pay to losen ur steering colum bold off before doing ti jsut in case.

It's a long wheel base with raised roof (biiig container! :D )

I think there's 5 bodyomounts on each side.

I started dreaming of a 2-inch lift since i'm already doing half the job while fixing the body-mounts, but i'm on both a money- and time-budget, so i guess it'll have to wait until i have the time and money to freshen up the suspension first.
Thanks for the tip about the steerring-coloumn, i'll keep that in mind.

My body lift blocks cost me $50 and the bolts another $70 and it only took an afternoon to finish.
Its a nice cheap and easy way to get some guard clearance.
