Hi all
Just wondering if any of you have moddified/simplified there air intake on there 4.5(non- turbo)
If so what have you done and did it make a difference?!
I dont just mean installing a snorkle(that coming) or finer filter(got one).
Iv got to do some moddifying soon to fit the second battery seeing as the lpg converter took it's spot..so i though i would do everything all at once!
Is it necesary to keep the "back fire" chamber??
Would it be possible to use some stainless tubing with rubber bends and "tap" all the hoses and sensors back in the appropriat spot?!
Any help and pics would be helpfull
thanks
aaron

Manufacturers do a good job generally on standard items, the throttle body is small and I have fitted larger ones with sucess in more power at higher (over 3000) rpm.
I would get the standard item flowed at each port, if there were substantial differences there is a company that do power porting, it requires that the manifold be opened up to get the waste porting material out though, could be as much as $700. We do this to balance custom manifolds to ensure the mixture to each cylinder is the same, works with turbo moreso as the flow rates are higher.
Cheers

yeah i assumed there would be more of an advantage with having a turbo and a moddified air intake.
seen nice pics from some of the guys on here with worked td42t's and there air intake set ups!
i'd say i'l still do it when i get round to installing the snorkle and make some room for my second battery(as that was my main reason to simplify it in the first place)
anyway when i get round to it i'l post some pics
cheers

where you planning on putting the second battery? theres almost no room under a 4.5 to fit anything decent

iv seen 4.5's on gas with a second battery, what they did was remove the secondary/back fire chamber by simply cutting it off then duct taped a spray can lid over the hole (one that was a tight fit) This was done so that if it did back fire it would blow the lid off and not destroy your air box!
Then they moved the gas converter and that other cylinder looking thing(dont know what it is) to where the back fire chamber used to be.new brackets had to be made up!
then just make your brackets up for the battery to sit where the converter used to be!
all in all the he said he had no troubles at all with the gas after he did this.
actually PM daz4b,he's had it done to his truck!he might be ablt to post up some pics
cheers

are you talking where the cruise control is? on the passenger side up against the firewall.
thats where my second battery is

yeah basically.
there's not much room for lpg and second battery, so a little bit of massaging need to be done to afew components for fitment.
assume yours isnt on lpg, which makes things much easier!

I have both dual battery and LPG.
My converter sits above the exhust manifold battery against the fire wall pasanger side. Standard ducting was changed to suit impco 425 mixer sitting on the rocker cover. No back fire tank of what ever it is on the standard intake
