leaking 4runner diff

My runner is leaking a significant amount of diff oil from the yolk seal. I had this replaced no more than 1000ks ago and now im back to square 1. I took the rig back to the mechanic who did it and he said something about the diff maybe having some bearing probs and flogging the seal out.

There is absolutely no vibrations in the diff at all and it has very minimal backlash, if any different than stock at all.
There is a whine when going around 110kph but up untill that it is dead quiet.

Does this seem like a common thing or should I perhaps replace the seal myself and see how I go for a second time?

Diff flange could be worn out making replacement of seal useless. As surface is worn, any new seal will not contact properly and leak.

Next time they or you pull the seal out, try and have a look at the surface to see if a groove has been cut into it, ie wear.

From a toyota guru at overlander forum:

"The possible wear on the flange is not caused by the leaking seal but normal wear that happens where a seal lip is running on a steel surface

The reason i said this is so you don't put a new seal in on a worn surface only to have it leak again"
