storage of 60 series diesel cruiser

Gday,
im thinking of purchasing a 1989 diesel gx wagon with 400k on original motor to tour around in for a few months before we head off to the usa. 2 owners with service history but no reconditioning on motor.We will be gone in the states for 12 months and I will have to store it in the shed with no contact from anyone. Will this cause any problems when i get back? Any tips i should know? Is $8000 too much for a 20 year old cruiser? thanks for your help. Taz

disconnect battery and consider putting it on a maintenance charger or it might be stuffed when you get back.

Any one know if there will be issues with the diesel bacteria?

I was always told to fill it up before going to stop the tank rusting, perhaps this with a liter of unleaded in there to stop the bacteria would be the go.

For 8grand you are nearly in the early 80 series prices.

As said, disconnect the battery, and leave her filled up with a good diesel conditioner in the tank, the diesel additive will have anti bug stuff in it to stop any bad eggs. Just make sure you change all the fluids when you get back, and expect to have to fix some leaks when you get back.

The other choice is to sell it when you leave and use the funds for another one when you get back.

well for 8 grand, i think i'd be looking around. There was a tidy white wagon with a3f 5 speed for $3500..... kingston area. Ill look for you tomorrow. I dont think id step into a 8g 60 with 400 on the dial. Look for an 80, get coils and a better re-sale..

8g could also get a nice GQ as well only saying this as iv had a GQ recently loved them coil ride, now cruising in a 60/62 seires

I bought a 94 gxl 80 series with 3" lift for $8000, way too much for a 60.

You get what you pay for!! Better to spend 8K on a well kept 60 series (even with 400k on the clock) than you are to spend 8K on a three parts stuffed unkept 80 series that needs 4K spent on it.

ive got a DX 80 series diesel i picked up almost 2 year ago for less then 8k with 10months rego.

mate i know its a GXL but your getting porked over.

thanks for the advice. still undecided about the 60 series.Its a GX all set up and we will probably head up to the Kimberleys for a look. Dual tanks & batteries, uhf and ome lift but guess you get what you pay for as was mentioned.i have a couple of months to look around so maybe fuel prices going up will bring a few out on the market.When storing diesel can it go bad? i was just thinking off filling her up to the top so no moisture could build up.
