nissan , ford maverick, questions ?

g day guys , i have a mate with a ford mav lwb. Its a 93 mdl petrol 4 .2 but its got a carby, not efi. As far as i knew the patrols changed to efi from 92 so was wondering if the mavericks didnt get the efi or what ?. Im looking at buying it , maybe , and was wondering if there are any other differences i shold be looking out for ?. Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated. shane......

mmmm carby is thirsty but if ya want power. A few things is it on gas. If so they can dry out the seals in the carby which is a problem when running on solid fuel. I still say taking the gas off was the best thing. Put the points coversion kit on it from Pihrana, this is a definite! Mine is great & very smooth now and I am very impressed, even at 6.5 k's a ltr. Carby ones are reliable BUT if it has been rebuilt and it runs like a dog on hills they haven't adjusted the float level correctly and they will have to reset it. I have found them to be a very reliable motor that is very strong. No Mavericks did not come out with EFI factory fitted. Carby is simple technology. If you want economy by a diesel. Hope it helps.

Ring Redlands 4wd centre or ring Pihrana for your nearest dealer. Was about $230 as i recall. I tune it every 12 months other than that i don't touch it. THe only other thing to also do is buy a proper 12v electronic coil as it will pump out more volts and make it a electronic ignition. The factory one is 6 volt with the ballist resistor. The pihrana one works great with the std coil, but more spark is more power.

since we are talking ignition, don't know if it helps with performance, but ive been told that an extended rotor button makes the electrical system strain less to get the spark across the gap in the dizzy cap i.e. 10,000 volts at idle instead of straining it to do 20,000 volts at idle to bridge the (so i'm told) factory 3mm gap...... i got mine for $35 change over instead of $90 from pirahna

I bought an extended rotor button from Performance ignition services which are based in victoria for $55. Its a new rotor thats been extended 3mm.

I also installed a digital multi spark ignition module from Crane cams which made a huge difference. Idles alot smoother and no more misfiring!
Best $300 bucks Ive spent on it in my opinion.

thanks for that red rover. Yeah it is running a 300 A gas system from impco. and runs on gas 90 % of the time. To be honest ive driven quite a few patrols now and i think the carby / maverick did go harder than the efi patrols. And I would definatly go for the electronic ignition too. Thanks man.....shane.

Jaycar do an elect ignition kit for $60 I think it was.. mate has one on his GQ.
