looking at updating the wifes car and want to get a family sized 4x4. Im looking at either an early 2000-02 prado grande or a 2004 jeep lerado. Not buying either to go out hardcore 4x4. but want something i can drive in the high country in and something easy for the wife to put around in.

anyone know much about either these cars.

oh and im looking at the 3.4 V6 prado and the 4.7 V8 Jeep.
Got about $20k to spend

thanx

If its ever venturing off road go the jeep :)

People will talk about how the prado is stronger etc and doesnt break but the reality is that the jeep will get you into places any car will break stuff in and the prado wont get anywwere near it.

Also the jeeps a much nicer place to be compared to the prado interior.

The plado .. thypical yota build quality, as boring as an income tax conference but increadibly reliable.

Jeep .. far more exciting vehicle, higher maintence when i catchs on fire, plenty of grunt from the hemi though.

I have a Prado 90 and that pretty much sums it up.

The Jeep no doubt is the nicer vehicle, but the Prado is typical Toyota in that you can just jump in and drive it and no little surprises are going to jump out at you. If it's a run around for the wife, then the Prado is going to have the better fuel consumption, with the standard dual tanks holding 159L it's another little bonus.

hey LuxyBoy. if i could get one for under $20k then maybe but its gonna be the wifes car and we have 2 little ones. the 2door wrangler is not the right car for a growing family

X2

however my wife is in love with the grand cherokees and thinks the prados are ugly as all hell. I'd probably get the prado as toyotas make the perfect shopping tolleys for women folk

I was always marginal on Prado's until my mate bought one as his daily, and it surprised me as to how comfy it was and actually how good it performed offroad. Quite good flex for a shopping trolley :D

The Grande is probably more luxury than his is, so would only be better :D

It will fit no problems. Even with a typical 2" lift and a set of 265/75R16's (32", 31" standard) it will still fit under. Fitting some kind of rack on will probably cause some issues though.

Don't know about prices but the one i saw was a 4 door. It is nothing like the standard softtop wrangler.

Prado. You need one car that always starts and goes.

Steve.

"car" being the all important word there ;)

The V8 Jeep is quite economical when punted around town, it's not exactly working hard. It will also come with all the gear and have a lower roof height and feel less truck like for the daily stuff than the Prado. Then when you want to take it off road it has the live axle front and rear and plenty of grunt.

Should be cheaper too because it doesn't have a Toyota badge on it ;)

Cheers
Steve

im starting to lean towards the jeep as i can get a lower km later model with more options for less than a basic prado. and im sure the 04 lerado's have the quadra drive traction control. Id prob give it a 2inch lift and fit some all terains.
