Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ive got this motor & box (big$$$$ spent) with very strong internals and it went very well in the commodore but ive got this urge to bung it in my middy to replace my 3f & 5spd can anyone tell me will a nissan transfer bolt up to this auto or can anyone help me finding someone that can make adapter for cruiser transfer

this one has stood up fairly well

nissan divorced is pretty buliteproof.

yeah i dont know what option to go i dont want the 3f(fuel gussler) toyota autos are very heavy on the motor i had one in a 60.i heard datsun has a remote transfer case in the 720 are they any good and can you get reduction gears for them mounting wont be a prob i like modifing stuff.

Well nissan thought a na carby rb30 was good combo for the patrol.

So a strong turbo rb30 in a middy will be fine and you can even use
a standard GQ 5speed box with t case straight from a rb30 patrol two easy

trying to get away from changing gears so maybe patrol auto?

from my knowledge the rb30 never came with a auto in the patrol, dnt think the standard auto will bolt up with out a custom bellhousing

ive tried marks but they cant help and still waiting to hear from C R S but at the end of the day its not looking real promising hey

patrols were only manuals. and there 5spds aint the strongest either (rb30)and nothing else does not match up to it. as far as iv'e been told

RB30 might also drink a fair amount in the middy, considering the weight and drivetrain losses and gearing.

Mq's also had a divorced case that you could use.

end of the day tho, there is a reason people throw BIGGER capacity motors 4bies. low down torque.

what works in a comodoor may not be ideal for a 4wd.

seen plenty of rb 30's work well in patrols with the right diff gears.

saw one on the weekend, in a Patrol, and it was awesum - heaps of power and very tractable too, and surprising good on fuel. Vehicle with big lift and 37inch tyres etc, so not light - doing around 3000rpm most of the time, but easily spun over 5 when needed.

But don't bother with the auto as they are too weak - they have kept many auto repair shops in profit for decades...especially the overdrive unit which when you know....you don't use 'cept on the highway at high speeds where it's not subject to any strain...trust me we've had a few VLs round here:)

Standard the auto don't handle power (especially the n/a auto's) too well, but they can be built to take huge amounts of power.

Im stretching my memory a bit but if you cant find a way to get a TF case atached the the standard auto, Im pretty sure the skyline autos (RB25DET engine) will pretty much bolt straight up. Another option if the engine is putting out big numbers and 3 gears is enough, is to get a built trimatic, turbo 350 or 400.

BH84a Muncie, Saginaw,T10 etc. to 3 litre Nissan Motor
BH84b Toyota Steel Case to 3 litre Nissan motor
BH84c Blank 3 Litre Nissan for Special conversions
BH 92 Toyota Supra to 3 Litre Nissan
BH 93 Toploader & Single Rail to 3 Litre Nissan

if your going to the hasstle of doing an engine conversion, you'd want it to work well first up, and not have to outlay another grand for diff gears.

I'm going to disagree with that Bad_Religion - getting the engine into its correct RPM range is a valid part of an engine swap.

I understand the RB25 auto is basically the same as the patrol auto, so an RB25 case with a patrol transfer adapter and GQ transfer (which you can get gears for) would be the way to go.

I'd have no hesitation pulling out a 3F and putting an RB30 in there. I've had a hankering to build a lightweight patrol with a RB20 in it before, and my own sierra has a 660cc turbo in place of the stock motor.

or selecting a suitable engine in the first place would also work.

i.e. falcon straight 6's have similar torque peaks to the 2/3f, just lighter and more efficient.

and finding gears above 4.88 for a cruiser is hard enough. if you need to go lower because of a peaky motor AND big tires, it can get spendy.

I would lean towards the falcon 6 also

i might look at other combintions i dont really want a 8 (but they do sound gr8 doing it) the only reason i looked at the Rb30 was i had it sitting in the corner and the 3f has a burnt out valve.what are those lexus donks are like?

1uz's are a good motor and good on fuel.
best thing i did was pulling the 3f out and putting the 1uz in the middy.
and i would do it again! bugger putting nissan junk in a toyota

what sort of outlay
