Cruiser diff into MQ Patrol

The reason being for the 4.1 ratio. the best i can get is 4.3 and do alot of hway kays.

Both are off set diffs, so may be okay.

Wheel bolt pattern is the same

what about:

Tail shaft bolts ?
Brakes lines, etc ?
spring widths ?
track widths ?

Any one done it before ?
any one want to donate a rear diff cheap?

Who feels like getting out the tape measure ?

May work the other way too, as a MQ patrol diffs are 4.3 or 4.6 std and are cheap as chips.

i forget where, but i think i read somewhere that someone put 60 diffs under an MQ as a straight swap... from what i gathered there was no need for any mods, but then, dont quote me on saying that...

Ill have a set of spare 4.1 patrol gears mid next month, if thats will save some hassles?

I thought patrol had a wider track by a bit, but I could be wrong.

Are 4.1 patrol diffs actually rare? In a GQ they are as common as mud, anyway.

Why not just put a 4.1 GQ H233 centre in the rear?

2nd the GQ diff idea, but MQ also came out with 4.8's aswell,
if you are handy with a welder, why not just add spring saddles to
your existing mq difs some trailing arms & a panhard rod,you could
get all existing arms & rods off factory junk at any wrecka, then tak in the brackets.

I can go 1 up on jet-6... I'll have a set of GU 3.9 CW&P gears for sale prior to tax time

sorry guys , its a MQ/MK patrol. looking at easiest and cheapest way to get some more legs.

May look into the GQ gears if the cruiser idea falls through.

leaf sprung gq diffs bolt straight in steering and all
and a gq cw&p will fit the small rear diff or run a h260 with gq gears.
people almost throw away both of these parts

ahh k, So I can just replace the CW&P from a pretty mush common GQ Front ( ?) into the rear and keep spiders and LSD, etc. and will be sweet.

What can we do for the front. Although, cant remeber the last time i locked the hubs in

A bit confused atm with diff models, been a long week and screaming kids arent helping

searched a bit more
Screwy wrote:in a nut shell.......

MQ/MK rear diffs have the same spine counts as the GQ fronts do.
The mq and GQ rears and gq fronts are the same physical size but different spline counts between rears...

so basically,
You can bolt a gq front centre into a rear mq housing/axles and you can bolt a MQ rear centre into the front GQ housing/axle/CVs
But an MQ rear centre is not interchangeable in GQ rear housings.... or visa versa.....
rear to rear is a no go due to axle splines. you cant change the axles over because gq diffs are wider....
mq fronts are a completely different diff.

if you change the mq rear into a gq front you need to do a knuckle swap to bring the tie rod to the front of the diff instead of the back as gq fronts are high pinion and mq rears are low pinion....

also the gqs only have 4.1s, most mqs have 4.6s so you will need to ensure correct ratio changes.

I think i know of a gq front diff sitting round for a trial fit into a spare MQ housing i have here

Looking like i may be able to find a 4.1 match for the front out of a 720

i'm confused, why don't you just use 4.1 ratios from a MK patrol, they're cheap as chips now days, it'd have to be easier if your really set on getting 4.1 ratios. Personally i'd keep the 4.3's and accept a little less top speed

Pongo,

I've got those diffs (MQ/MK 4.3,4.6 and LC 60 4.1) for sale.

I'm putting GQ leaf diff in my MQ. there is a thread in here about it some where. EDIT - its the same thread that screwy is quoted in...

Pongo call me if your confused and I'll try and confuse you a little more.... :D

I was thinkin of puttin GQ front diff under mine but aren't they a wider track? if they are they shouldn't bolt straight in. Plus the Mq has a wider chassis so wouldn't the springs not line up? I mainly want a GQ front for extra track width...and the cv's :)
