Hey guys.
After recently getting a machined up 5L block cheap, im gonna start building up the motor. Basically i just want a brief outline of pricings if possible for crank, rods, pistons, bearings ect ect.. Ive been told it will be alot cheaper building it this way than just walking in and getting a reco one. And is there anything in the way aftermarket rods ect to build it tuff? It will be getting built to have a turbo and prolly run 14-ish pound through a dts kit or something like that. And WILL A 2,8 head fit on it?

Any help appreciated. Cheers, Chris

Chris, I'm told the 2.8 head will bolt up and run but the pre-combustion chambers are different as well as the valves & cam on a 5L.

You going 5LT or 5LTE ??

What sort of tough pistons were you thinking of to cope with the turbo ??

Okay thanks. That was my main question if there was such parts that you can upgrade. Ive just got 5l standard block, but will if goes to plan jazz it up with a turbo. Its all up in the air atm but i just wanted to no if there was aftermarket internals ect for them to beef em up. Chris

I'm thinking this would be good upgrade for my 2LTE when/if it dies (still origonal head, rad configuration, turbo, etc.).

Will be watching this thread with interest ....

yeh. well i used to have one dropped in my first 94 lux that i had and it went hard without the turbo.. considerably better than my 2.8 anyways. So no one has any ideas on aftermarket internals for 5l diesel ey? Chris

i would check what sort of piston cooling they have in those motors. if it doesn't have piston oil spray bar you might be able to fit ones off 2lt or some 3L's. also check if 2L/3L oil collers fit if it doesn't have one.

after market parts......i havn't heard of any. proberly stuck with standard parts which properly won't be to bad. just get them xrayed, crack tested, balanced etc
see if you can find a slightly thicker head gasget so you lower the compression a little bit. (ie 20:1). i have heard of decompression plates beeing fitted on them.
