twin fuel can carrier on rear bar..

Hi All
I currently have a Rangie that has the spare 33" muddy mounted on the rear bar. I am intending on adding a rack next to the spare wheel to carry a 20 litre fuel can. I am also considering making the rack capable of carrying two 20 litre fuel cans that will sit next to the spare wheel. The rack with measure 390mm x 390mm The trouble the extra fuel can will stick about 50mm past the spare.
Is this something that will attract attention from the unwanted revenue raisers?
Has anyone done this before?
Cheers
Andrew

Wouldn't want them to get hit, that's for sure.

So are all the Kaymar and other branded rear bars with the 20 litre fuel container attachments illegal?

No but you are only supposed to carry water in them.
Same with a trailer you can only carry fuel on the passenger side holders for safety reasons.

cant find concrete evidence either way but
BTW - jerry can holders are illegal if they protrude beyond the body of the vehicle. It is also illegal to carry fuel in a jerry can mounted in a position where it is the first thing to be impacted in the event of a crash.

Do you intend using the jerry can holder for additional fuel? If so then you are breaking the law if the holder is mounted outside the boundaries of the existing bumpers or outside the vehicle. Basically you are driving around with a "Backpack Bomb" attached to the back of your vehicle. One half decent rear ender and you end up with petrol sprayed all over a crash scene. One spark and you are toast, literally....Illegal for a very good reason.

kaymar wensite only say jerry can holder and doesnt advertise it as a way of carrying fuel. my thinks they would if they could.
Canbt find anything concrete anywhere but if its a rumour then its a strong one.

When i got my camper trailer my cop mate told that was the rule and yes they can pull you up for it but wouldn't bother; however have an accident and a jerry explodes; look out!
The only reason he knew this was because he was looking into building his own camper trailer.
Roadnazi can you confirm this
Mate is a QLD cop

Who cares
IF....
IF your in an accident - not an everyday occurance for most people, and IF you happen to have a jerry can of fuel at the time of the highly unlikely accident. Wouldn't you rather it exploding/leaking outside the car, than inside?
If I have to carry a jerry, I'd sure rather it outside than in. No matter what the law states.
