fast idling on diesel cruiser

Can someone pls give me any direction on why my hj60 is idling fast about (1300rpm). Have checked for the obvious vacuum leaks, there is some carbon crud around one of the injector seats, went to tighten but doesn't appear to be loose. I have ajusted the idle speed via the butterfly on the throtle body but this is only a temp fix. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does the idle change if you remove the oil cap while the engine is running?

Haven't checked this, what could this indicate?

It can indicate that its running on its own fumes. This is a common prob on high klm diesel motors.

also could be the governer diaphram in the injector pump splitting. went in my HJ45 not long ago. idle kept increasing over the period of a few months, not noticable at first, then i turned it down at the butterfly... 2 weeks later the thing would just redline, and pour out black smoke. that was when it went.
so if all else fails, check that. it was on the end of the injector pump, down the bottom, closest to the firewall on mine, might not be there on a 2h etc.

Thanks for that, I checked the oil cap thing and didn't make a difference, does rev faster as it gets warmer though?

mine ran faster when it got warm too, not saying it is the injector pump governer...
the mechanic that i went to said he'd never seen one go before, but all my diesel cruiser driving friends have had them go, so ???
low sulphur diesel may be to blame.
at a guess i'd say it was the injector pump diaphram., doesn't look too hard to do, if you like bleeding the air outa diesel systems. i passed the work on because it blew on the way to work, and the guy said he'd have it done by hometime... cost me 80 in parts and 20 in labour.

I pulled the back of the govenor housing off where the diaphram is, and around the bottom it's all cracked, so it ain't holding much vacuum.
Thanks for your advice as there would of been no way i would have found it or even looked there!
