Fawkin split rims

:bad-words: does anyone else have their tires deflate all the damn time with split rims?

on my work car ('04 4wd hilux dual cab) i've got the stock toyota split rims that come on the cheapo models, with Cooper ST's on them. in the last 6 months, i've probably had 4 flats, not from something going through the tire, just deflating overnight or while parked somewhere. just had another one this morning :x

it doesnt worry me cause work pays to fix the pieces of shit, but i always have to change the fawkers with the shitty toyota bottle jack

If they got rust flakes or dirt inside them when they are put together, it can cause the inner tube to get a hole later down the road.

the most likely prob with all split rims is the shitty quality tube that most (2nd rate) tyre shops stock...I've seen them fail time after time..
Good quality tubes are available but they cost more.....

best thing to do is get your splitties with tyres, and go to the ocean, and throw them in......point and laugh loudly.......
then say to your boss...."I came out to go to work and they were gone..!!"

i think this is most likely the problem. the place we use at work for tires isnt that impressive, so i imagine they aren't using good quality tubes.

and i do have a set of normal steel wheels here to suit a hilux, might hit the boss up to swap them onto the thing...will give it a wider stance too

From memory, and it's years since I've had splits, there's supposed to be a liner between the rim and the tube too. Wonder if they're putting that in?

Steve.

probably not steve. cant say for certain, i've never hung around to watch them swap the tube over

yes they are supposed to have a liner in. I suspect your problem is more to do with the tyre or tube and nothing at all to do with the rim.
