Can people recommend a really good, sealed steel inline air filter plenum air box. It will be used as a remote type air filter assembly.
Your help is appreciated.

Oh my first post! And this is right up my alley too as I'll be doing something very similar soon.

I wouldn't reccommend using a product like that on a 4x4. Looks comparable to a K&N
I love their statements "down to
about 5 micron" and 10-20 micron causes the most wear??? By contrast, Donaldson has the biggest R&D department in the business, and is among the few manufacturers that people with seriously expensive (off highway) engines trust (mining, etc).
(sorry to shoot down your first post)

Yeah Donaldson do appear to be serious about their products... Thing is I'm sure they have quite an exotic price!
I did a quick search and found this:

Of course, no lab results so you always have the the question of how legit is all of this. My intention is to use the storm airfilter on a snorkle setup I will be making. I think it will work ok for my purposes. Well... I'll find out soon enough eh?

If a company like donaldson made false claims as to their filters performance, they would be wide open to a whole world of legal pain. Billions of dollars worth of machinery throughout the world rely on their products being up to spec.

Rofl - better than K&N the filters may be, but that isn't saying much!!!
Donaldson are pretty good value for money. I have a donaldson filter head on my snorkel. $30 compared to $70 odd for a safari equivalent.

Pretty much anyone who has a motor in a harsh environment uses donaldson. They're not expensive for the protection they offer. They're not sexy at all though.
Don't make the mistake of using rice or "power adding" parts in a 4WD, they're not suited.
Even desert race guys use a donaldson design, just modified by using alloy for the housing and bigger inlets etc. -

Ok, who sells donaldson stuff here in Melbourne? I really need to see the filters before buying so I can work out how I'm going to make this setup work... I'm so limited in space it isn't funny.

Stirlsilver - what exactly are you trying to do???
Donaldson make many OEM filters. So toyota filters (e.g.) are usually Donaldson. Most filter suppliers or truck spares places should stock donaldson filters. Fleetgard and MANN+HUMMEL are usual as good though if you can't get donaldson.
On my IIA I have a hilux filter box, which is quite compact.
Generally though, the larger the filter the better, so squeeze in the biggest one you can.

Well, I fitted an EFI manifold to the engine. And on the stage 1 the engine is not centered in the car but over to the left (as you probably know). Unfortunately the EFI manifold has the throttle body on the left hand side also, so I have very little room between the throttle body and the side of the engine bay.
My current configuration:
I'm able to fit an elbow on at the moment, but the thing is I've fabricated a new LPG mixer ring which is much longer than the one currently fitted (about 130mm long) so I have no choice but to make a hole into the side of the engine bay to plumb up a snorkel. With out an air filter it would be dead easy.
Mixer ring -> inner guard wall -> outer guard wall -> elbow -> rest of snorkel
Thing is... I have to put a filter somewhere, was toying with nesting it inside the mud guard and making up a shield for it, but that will make checking/changing the filter very difficult. I'm definitely open to suggestions, but I can see that putting a filter inside the engine bay will require complicated plumbing to get to the air filter and then out to the snorkel... so yeah... i'm definitely open to suggestions.

Would an efi rangie cylinder filter housing fit ? or you could rotate the plenum to the LH side if there is more space ?

If it was me I would put the normal Stage 1 (or similar) filter behind the engine, and just run more complicated plumbing. Any filters compact enough to do what you want would either be very restrictive or useless - unless you can use a disco/rrc barrel filter.
As it is, the stock RRC filter is 1/2 the size of a tdi filter. That should surely be compact enough???
