Gearmastaer transfer case reduction gears 85%

Has anyone fitted the Marks4wd gearmaster transfer reduction gears 85% to a 3.0lt GU patrol?
If so what issues did you face with the install? I belive that you have to 'modify' the transfer case a little bit to enable the gears to go in (they are bigger than the stock gears)
What differences did you find after install?
Was there any 'downsides' to the install

would be well worth the modification
i had them in a GQ ute 4.2 turbo diesel
same principal gear reduction
more control more traction
on a 3.0L it would definatly be good make the engine work less

A mate of mine has them in his 3.0 GU, and he reakons they are the best mod hes every done to it. Stops it stalling everywhere etc, saves the clutch, makes it sooo much more drivable offroad.

I reckon the 24% would be worth lookin at..
83 makes low range pretty much useless for crusing around and as said on your question on patrol forum places like Robe dune and beach driving would suck as mentioned.
Been for a run in a Turbointercooled 4.5 petrol with the 83's and it was insanely low... 305's on it and think he did diffs.

Thanks all for your replies - I have read and considered them all
I have made the decision to go with the 85% mainly because I have a LOT of weight in my 3.0lt (weighs about 3,500kg all up) and I have 285 tyres so I like the notion of being able to 'crawl' both up and down hills without the need for a lot of momentum. Less momentum means less crashing and bashing which means a better ride and less damage to vehicle, contents and passengers
I will wait until I get back from the CSR trip (12th July - 11th August) as I wont need it for then.
But will definitely appreciate them when I am in the Victorian High Country

My mate and i fitted 88% Rock hopper to my 4.2 gq, I hope that the instruction that come with yours and a bit better. You will need to modify BOTH sides of the case, slot the replacement cog into position before trying to assemble and have a good press available. This turned out to be a real bastard of a job but the end result is well worth it, he has now fitted them to his GU. Then you need to learn to drive differently, I am still getting used to it as where you always have to have speed to get to the top the bloody thing just crawls there now!!! I fitted the Marks 84% reduction to my GQ... IMHO they make awesome crawling... Unfortunately when in convoy though, you need to be in high range on some of the rougher road surfaces due to the fact that it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with someone with stock gearing.
I consider it one of the most worthwhile investments though but it can be inconvenient at times although it does make it virtually impossible to stall.

exactly what I expected, and why I reckon 45 or 28% would be much better. Low range becomes useful for driving around

ever heard of picking another gear ... don't forget u have 5 gears to pick from ... high and low range ... don't be shy to use them all
